Term 4 Calendar
Staff recognition day
Each year, a special afternoon tea is held for all of our Buderim Mountain State School staff to acknowledge the terrific contribution they make to our school each and every day. We have approximately 120 staff members at Buderim including teachers, cleaners, teacher aides, administration and office staff, support staff and grounds staff. It is this group of very dedicated and hard working staff who help to make Buderim Mountain State School such an excellent school.
A huge thank you must go to our P&C and Banksia Café staff for organising the catering for the afternoon tea. Our staff felt very appreciated and spoilt.
Preparing for 2024
To ensure we are able to plan for 2024 as accurately as possible, families are asked to assist with the following:
- Letting any families know, who are intending to have students enrol in any P-6 year level at BMSS, to submit an enrolment form at the school office
- Letting the office staff know of any students who are transferring to other schools in 2024 in an email via info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au
- Letting the office staff know of any students who will not be present from the beginning of the school year (eg. For holidays). It is crucial that we know of all students who will be returning, but may be away at the beginning of the school year as they are also counted in our total enrolment and will contribute to maximising the number of teachers we are entitled to. This in turn, reduces the ratio of teachers to students across the school. Once again, please email this information to info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au.
PREP:
To assist the school in planning for our 2024 Prep classes, could all parents please ensure all enrolment paperwork is submitted as soon as possible. If you have enrolled your child and are yet to book in for a Prep information session, please contact the school office to secure your place. Prep tours will continue each Monday until the end of October. Bookings are essential and can be made through the office.
2024 BOOK PACKS:
Please be aware that discussion at a recent P&C meeting included options for parents who do not want to have any book pack items, that are leftover from the current school year, to go home. While parents are welcome to have leftover book pack items to use at home, starting this year, you may opt to leave these items at school – these items would be used in classrooms the following year for students who need them or donated to a charity that has been identified by our P&C. We will provide more details in the next newsletter.
House Readers Cup
During Term 3, we held the inaugural Year 5 House Readers Cup. The students worked together as a team and answered questions about five books they had read. All House teams did extremely well and the competition was very close right up until the final round. Congratulations to all team members for their dedication and teamwork throughout the lead up to the competition day. Yuamala were victorious on the day.
Mrs Cuthbertson
House Readers Cup was challenging and fun! The competition day was quite intense, and as we became more comfortable as a team, we improved in our ability to work together to answer questions about the books we read. Our favourite book was Geronimo Stilton! Congratulations to each house, especially Yuamala. Everyone did an awesome job.
By Cheropin
The House Readers Cup through Yuamala’s eyes was very challenging, and also taught our team resilience, patience and most of all teamwork. When our team were studying the books, the stories had twists and turns, ups and downs and kept us in suspense. At the end of Round 3 on competition day, we were nail- bitingly close, with only ½ a point separating us and our closest rivals, Cheropin. During the final round however, we separated from the other teams by 7.5 points. Overall, I think as team captain, the team’s favourite book was Truck Dogs because four out of six people on my team read the book so quickly due to how engaging it was.
Team Captain, Céilidh
Debating
This year our school competed in a debating competition at Sunshine Coast Grammar. In preparation for the debates, we learned about rebuttals and expanded our vocabulary. Each week we were given a topic and had an hour to development our argument which was either affirmative or negative.
BMSS had two teams of three people. We competed against Year 6 and 7 teams from Immanuel, Sunshine Coast Grammar, Mooloolaba and St Johns. While doing our debates, we developed team-work skills, public speaking and learning how to keep cool under pressure. The idea of a debate is to change someone’s opinion on a certain topic.
I enjoyed debating because I got to work closely with my team, develop strong arguments and incorporate new words, strategies, and quotes into our team’s case.
Thank you to all of the students who participated in the debating competition.
Year 5 team – Flossie S, Claudia S and Maddie H Year 6 team – Sam M, Danica R and Nina M
Stop, Drop and Go
To assist with keeping all students safe during after school pick up in our Stop, Drop and Go zone on Elizabeth Street, all students are now being asked to:
- Sit and wait with siblings for parents to arrive
- Wait for the vehicle to be at a complete stop before approaching the vehicle
- Walk along the pathways, not the strip of grass between the pathway and the road
To assist in keeping your child safe, parents are reminded to:
- Park in allocated bays only, as students' safety is risked when children enter cars park on yellow lines
- Display your name card on the sun visor of your vehicle. If you require one, please email the school at info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au
Year 4 - Big Bang Incursion
This term, Year 4 are looking at forces in science, and to assist students in understanding forces in action, in week 10 of term 3, all Year 4 students attended an incursion called THE BIG BANG. Students learnt about Newtons Law of Physics and centrifugal forces before participating in some hands on workshops. Students had the opportunity to explore magnetism, stored energy, contact push force and friction with cars. The following are some comments made by our students:
Mia- It was fascinating!
Hunter B- It was a good experience. Ten out of ten!
Ben- Now I feel better at science!
Rose- It was amazing!
Audrey H and Bella C - Grade 4 did some great activities such as ball launching, elastic band cars, rocket launching and magnet experimentation. It's a great experience for all year 4s!

Chappy Chat
The Chaplaincy space is always full of exciting news and the joy of working together and making new friends. Each week at first break the Chappy room is open to all students to come in and feel welcome, a safe place to create, play and explore making new friends. It’s constantly changing with who arrives at my door for all different reasons. At the moment I have been encouraging the prep and year 1 students to be JOY GERMS and spread joy and positivity around the school through acts of kindness. I’m looking forward to what can happen in the next 9 weeks.
Ally and Archie from 4M are working on a project to add interest to a notice board in the undercover area. They are going to encourage students to add pictures to the wall that spark JOY and help our school community to be aware of all the amazing things we have in our environment right under our noses.
Our incredible P&C have organised the ‘Support our Chappy Board’ out the front of our school which highlights our generous sponsors to keep the program happening at school. I am so grateful to all these wonderful partnerships and their contributions.
Coming up over the next month will be opportunities to exercise joy by giving to others less fortunate than ourselves in the lead up to the Christmas Season. When thinking about happiness we receive back the most JOY when it is not about ourselves. Have a great term everyone.

1-2-3 MAGIC Parenting Course
Understanding Emotions and how best to support our Children
We would like to invite parents to attend an upcoming series of three workshops designed to help parents with understanding emotion and behaviour. Deb Price, who is currently working as Guidance Officer at Buderim Mountain State School and Pacific Paradise State School will be sharing the 1-2-3 MAGIC Programme with parents. The workshops will include information on:
- Understanding and dealing with challenging behaviour within or outside the home
- Encouraging and focusing on good behaviour eg. going to bed, doing homework, eating
- Strengthening your relationship with your child through consistency of routine and expectations, trust, the use of praise, active listening and shared fun
The three sessions will be held at Buderim Mountain State School within the Chaplain’s Room across from the School Tuckshop. These three sessions will be held on Friday the 27th of October and the 3rd and 10th of November, 2023. Each session will run 9:00am-12pm. Morning Tea to be supplied.
Participants will receive a workbook linked to the programme at no cost.
Please note that the sessions are for all parents, regardless of whether your child attends Buderim Mountain State School or not. Arrangements will need to be made for the care of any non-school age child(ren).
Should you wish to attend please contact Buderim Mountain State School by emailing Deb Price at dpric19@eq.edu.au, phoning the school office on (07) 5477 2777, or drop in personally to let office staff know you would like to attend.
Friends and family are welcomed.
Parent Talk and Chat Club
An opportunity for parents and our school Guidance Officer and Chaplain to connect, learn and support each other. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
PARKING REQUEST
We have had feedback from parents in relation to pick up processes each afternoon. The supervised pick-up zone is on Elizabeth St and a big thank you must go to parents who use the 6 pick up bays and do not park on the yellow lines for pick up.
The feedback we have had is a request for parents to not park on the yellow lines in Tindale Avenue as it impacts traffic turning left out of Elizabeth Street and only leaves room for one car to move along Tindale Avenue at a time. If cars are not parked on the yellow lines, it will allow traffic to move in both directions.
Thank you for your assistance with this.
Sport News
Buderim’s Sporting Stars
Buderim Mountain have many talented students who involve themselves in many sporting activities – mainly on the weekend. Over the year, students have had the opportunity to participate in trials to make sporting teams for Nambour District (yellow and blue), Sunshine Coast Region (purple) and QLD (maroon). This school sporting program gives students another avenue to progress and experience sport at a higher level. Congratulations to the students who have achieved this and I hope you have learnt new things and have fantastic memories of your experience.
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as a District Sport representative:
Athletics: Isla J, Xavier P, Harley O, Atreyu Q,
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as a Regional Sport representative:
Athletics: Henry R
P-3 Sports Fun Day
In the last week of Term 3, Prep to Year 3 students attended PE Fun Day. All of the year levels went out to the oval at different times to participate in lots of activities. It was a bright, sunny day so it was perfect to get some exercise in. Some of our favourite activities were Tug-of-War, Running Release and Soccer, but there were many more activities for us to do! It was so much fun! Everyone would like to say a massive thank you to Ms Hemingway for running and organising the PE Fun Day for us!
Elka and Vivien (3JC)
On Thursday, the 14th September, Buderim Mountain State School had the PE Fun Day. There was a huge variety of activities including basketball, tug of war, long jump, hungry hippo scooter boards, turbo javelin, soccer and relays. With each activity, we got to use up lots of energy and have heaps of fun.
Thank you to all of the organisers, teachers and the student leaders for making it such a wonderful and fantastic day.
By Ruby-Rose, Vera and Jack 2HM.
Australian School Sport Swimming Championships
Beau B was selected for the Queensland State Swimming Team to compete in the Australian Swimming Championships held in Sydney. He recently competed in the 100m breast stroke event at Olympic Park, gaining valuable racing experience against some of the best from around the country. Beau placed 13th in the U11 boys. Well done Beau for giving it your best. We can't wait to see how far your commitment and dedication takes you.
YEAR 5/6 INTERSCHOOL SPORT
Throughout term 3, year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to participate in interschool sport. The emphasis on the day was involvement and many students attempted a sport they had never played before. A great time was had by all participants from year five and six. Here is a brief report from each sport.
NRL Tag
At the fantastic grounds of Maroochydore rugby league fields, Buderim had the best three weeks of grade five experiencing Oz tag. Some of the highlights were the bus trips, making new friends, discovering new scenery on our journey, and playing against other schools. The weather was extraordinary with the intense sun shining on top of us. We had to stay hydrated after the games with a refreshing drink. Some teams were hard to beat, but it was a great way to learn how to never give up and always keep trying. We played against Kuluin SS, Mooloolaba SS and Stella Maris. We would like to say a big thanks to all the teachers that helped and kept us organised. We cannot wait until we get to do it again next year! (5L Students)
Rugby League
We played at Cotton Tree Rugby Union grounds against Stella Maris, Siena and Mooloolaba. All teams played hard and enjoyed their games. The year 6s played on a full field with 13 players per side. The Year 5s played on a reduced field with 11 players. As our 5 side only had 8 players, the other 3 schools always helped out with numbers to keep it fair. We had lots of players that had never played Rugby League before and we all got better as the term went on.
Netball
Interschool Netball was played again at Fisherman’s Rd. The courts are always in good condition and the students enjoy playing other schools at this facility. This year’s competition included Mooloolaba, Stella, Siena, Kuluin and of course Buderim. All teams played well and had lots of fun along the way. Buderim entered 10 teams, 5 teams from Year 5 and 5 from Year 6. There was a mixture of students who had never played before and others that were quite experienced. There was also a considerable amount of boys trying out the sport for the first time and finding it challenging and enjoyable. It is always great to see the smile on the students’ faces when they finished a game and came off the court feeling very satisfied in how they played. Well done Buderim Netballers.
Soccer
The interschool sports for soccer was heated, pardon the pun, as the sun was shining down on all of the days that we were down at Fisherman’s Road! On the eleven aside pitch, the action spread wide and fast. This certainly made players feel tired, as the three carnival days were long and each team tried its very best. From the seven-a-side point of view, the players had many opportunities to learn the game, and get their “boot on the ball”. All teams played well, considering that the draw combined the age groups together. Overall, soccer was fun, mainly because it was competitive yet not too serious. After every goal players celebrated, but games were always played in good spirit. When not competing, players spent their time playing little soccer skills games and chatting. Soccer kids could bring money for the canteen, or take along their own packed lunch or one of the interschool sport tuckshop deals. Each carnival day teams played at least five games which was really enjoyable, although we were exhausted when we got back to school. Thanks to the players, teachers, referees and parents who contributed to the games and made it such a fantastic experience!
AFL
When Buderim Mountain State School hit the field for Interschool AFL, it was like stepping into a world of pure excitement! We're were not just players, we were a team, working hand in hand to play a competitive game. What's really awesome is that every single person, no matter their skill level, got to be a part of the action. It's all about including everyone! It's these moments that we'll always remember.
Paul Franklin Shield
In week 6 of term 3, Buderim Mountain entered a mixed year 5 and 6 rugby league side into the 2023 Paul Franklin Shield rugby league carnival. It is the first leg of the Mark West Cup carnival that is run for the Sunshine Coast Region. All primary schools are invited to participate.
Our team has actually been training since term 1 this year and were called the Mark West Cup Squad.
The Paul Franklin carnival day was excellent in terms of organisation, participation and results.
Our side finished in 2nd place and certainly earned their spot in the final through some great play all day.
We won all of our pool matches to make the semi-finals. We played our best game in the semi winning 28-12. Ultimately, we lost the final but were beaten by a good side – that’s footy!
Thank you to Mr Johnson and Miss Page for your coaching in the lead up to the day. Thanks to Mr Allan and Mr Jackson who ran the side on the day.
We are looking forward to next year when we will enter again and more students will get to experience playing rugby league (the greatest game of all!).
Mr Allen
Coaching Coordinator
Billy Moore Rugby League Gala Day
Buderim Mountain entered four sides into the 2023 Billy Moore Gala Day. This is a rugby league carnival run by the NRL development officers to maximise participation for children in grades 5 and 6.
This event once ran from grades 3 to 6, but it became too big to run on the one day in the one location. They have split the Sunshine Coast into 2 zones and restricted the grades. Despite this, it has now grown to having 50 different teams with approximately 10 players per side - making it a big event on the school Rugby League calendar.
Between our four teams – Year 5 Maroons – Year 5 Greens – Year 6 Maroons – Year 6 Greens – we played 16 games for 7 wins, 5 draws and 4 losses. While the day was focussed on being non-competitive, it is always nice to go away with some positive results. The children that gave Rugby League a go for the very first time, improved out of sight. Even if this is the only League they will ever play, I am confident it will have been a great experience. I certainly saw some players that I would love to see playing club footy in the future.
Thank you to Mr Johnson, Mr Jackson and Mr Wright for your coaching in the lead up and good work on the day.
Mr Allen
Coaching Coordinator
Lightning Cup Primary School Netball
On Friday 18 August, our Year 6 students competed in the ‘Lightning Netball Cup’ at Maroochydore Sports Complex.
The competitive, inclusive carnival included 3 divisions. This year we fielded 2 teams. One in the Championship (Lightning Cup) and one in the Development (Thunder Cup) division.
A Lightning Strike Zone was set up on the day, including music, merchandise, free hair braiding and temporary tattoos, food trucks, a silent disco and giveaways and inflatable games, as well as special appearances and signing sessions throughout the day by Lightning players.
Congratulations to our teams who competitively competed in some hard fought, close matches throughout the day.
2023 ICAS RESULTS
The ICAS tests results from 2023 have all returned over the holidays, however certificates are still being sent to the school and will be handed out on Sharing Parades in the coming weeks. It is always exciting to announce how amazing Buderim Mountain State School students are, as seen in the below results from 2023. Congratulations to all students that participated!
Buderim Mountain State School will hold ICAS testing again in Term 3 2024.

Prep Father’s Day
On Thursday, 31st of August, the Prep classes paid tribute to all our Fathers and Special People in our lives. We really enjoyed hosting a Special Someone event in our classrooms! Our special people joined us as we shaved beards, made tie and crown creations, painted portraits of our loved ones, and built catapults. The children enjoyed sharing this time with the important people in their lives. Thank you to all the dads and special people of BMSS. We as a school community appreciate all you do!
Book Week
Students and staff celebrated Book Week from Monday 19th August to Friday 25th August. This year’s theme was: ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’.
Our library showcased the shortlisted books and students had the opportunity to listen to and read them throughout the week. Thank you to all teachers and classes for the outstanding artwork that has been displayed for the event.
On Thursday 24th August, all students were encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. Students, parents and teachers made a huge effort to design, create and craft their costumes for the day. We have some wonderful photos to share with you.
Chambers Island Excursion
During the first week of September, the Prep classes visited Chambers Island. What a great time we had exploring the wetlands, the forested area and casting a net to see what we could catch. We enjoyed picking up crabs, looking at sea animals in the wading pool, a blindfolded walk in the forest, but the most fun was the bus ride!
This exciting day was made possible by the generous assistance from our parents. We all came back to school with more knowledge and very tired bodies.
Arts Extravaganza
Our talented Creative Arts students have been busy rehearsing for the cumulative end-of-year Arts Extravaganza, “A Journey Through Time”.
We can’t wait to showcase our fantastic performances to the Buderim community, at the Calvary Church in Tanawha, Wednesday 18th October. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased via the QR code on the flyer, or via this link https://events.humanitix.com/arts-extravaganza
Students involved with the school choirs, dance teams, instrumental music programs, drama club and rock bands would love the support of our school community and look forward to welcoming you to our spectacular show!
The Arts Teaching Team
2024 Year 6 Student Leadership Selection Process
Throughout Term 4, our Year 5 students have the opportunity to be part of the 2024 Student Leader selection process. Year 5 students have been provided with information on the selection process and this is also attached. Timelines and dates have also been listed on the calendar in this newsletter as well as on the BMSS website. All leadership positions for 2024 will be announced prior to the end of the school year.
QParents
To assist with invoicing and receiving payments for incursions and excursions, the school is asking all parents to register for Qparents. Once each class in the school has 100% of parents registered for Qparents, the class will celebrate with each child in that class receiving a Juice Ice Block. Please see below for how to register for Qparents:
To register for Qparents, you will need to follow 4 easy steps
- Check that you have received your unique invitation code sent to your email. This also includes your child’s EQ ID number (if you haven’t received this, email our HR team to assist via resources@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au),
- You need an active email account
- Access to 100 points of ID to verify your identity. (See table below)
- Go to https://qparents.qld.edu.au and register
Instrumental Music
SUNSHINE COAST INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC EXCELLENCE PROGRAM 2023
Congratulations to the Instrumental Music students who were selected to participate in the Intermediate & Advanced Instrumental Music Workshops over 4 days at Venue 114, Kawana.
Intermediate Workshop: Elijah (French Horn), Kai (Trombone), Amelia (Trumpet), Sophia (Trumpet), Lucinda (Flute), Beau (Euphonium), Alex (Trumpet), Hannah (Bass Clarinet), Ellie (Violin), Isaac (Violin), Alby (Cello), Imogen (Cello), Lara (Cello). Meika (Cello).
Advanced Workshop: George (Trumpet), Aaliyah (Viola), Abbey (Violin), Aisha (Violin), Chloe (Viola), Ella (Violin), Emma (Violin), Hayoon (Violin), Heidi (Violin), Ivy (Double Bass), Neiva (Cello), Nina (Cello), Sebastien (Violin).
It was great to see so many students nominated for this program and working hard to extend their musical abilities. The workshops the students participated in were filled with rehearsals, Zumba and body percussion activities. Just like me, the students were buzzing with excitement at the end of each day. The culmination of the workshops was a concert for parents and families which was impressive considering there had been only one day of rehearsals. SCIMEP was a fantastic opportunity for our musicians to connect with students from 36 other Sunshine Coast schools while also enhancing their musical skills. It will be great to see in 2024, our Year 4, 5 & 6 students have the same enriching opportunity.
Qld Symphony Orchestra Excursion 2023
On Thursday 14 September our Instrumental Music students enjoyed an excursion to Brisbane to see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in a concert entitled, “Iconic Classic”. This concert took the students on a musical journey full of colourful classics, including familiar music and story to spark the imagination.
As the students entered the Queensland Conservatorium Theatre and spotted the orchestra onstage for the first time, there was a collective sound of ‘WOW!’ It was such a delight to see the students so moved by the breathtaking atmosphere of a live orchestra performance. Buderim Mountain students were given seating looking down on the magnificent orchestra.
Students were treated to 50 minutes of incredible music which was a highly interactive concert experience. The narrator engaged our students, encouraging them to clap and even conduct along with the orchestra while the orchestra played.
The orchestra played a couple of favourite songs, including, In the Hall of the Mountain King and the iconic Star Wars Theme, which left a lasting impression on our students.
It was the most wonderful day for our budding musicians and our Buderim Mountain students did themselves proud with excellent behaviour! Thank you to our wonderful staff and parent volunteers! We certainly couldn’t have done it without your help in keeping our students safe! We have had extremely positive feedback from students and families alike. It was truly a memorable and enriching experience for our Instrumental music students that will contribute to their growth as musicians.
Empowering our Woodwind Musicians: A visit from the Pedagogy Coach
We had the privilege of having Lyndall Green, a Woodwind Pedagogy Coach from North Coast Region visit the school this week. Ms Green’s visit provided invaluable help and support to our budding woodwind musicians. Our students gained valuable knowledge and techniques to enhance their sound and overall playing ability. We look forward to welcoming more pedagogy coaches to our school in the future, continuing to support and inspire our musicians.
PERKS
In Years 1 to 6 our most recent PERKS lesson aligned with the National Day of Action Against Bullying.
Our Learning Intentions for students were:
- To understand the difference between rude, mean and bullying behaviours
- To recall strategies to use if being bullied
- To recall strategies to use if witnessing someone else being bullied
The following were discussed:
- It is perfectly normal to argue or not get along with other people from time to time.
- Not all unkind or hurtful behaviour is bullying.
- While not getting along with others does not feel very nice, it is important to understand that bullying is actually very different from rude and mean behaviour.
Students were made aware of the essential differences between the following terms:
RUDE BEHAVIOUR – saying or doing something hurtful that wasn’t planned or meant to upset someone eg pushing in front when lining up, using someone’s things without asking first, not waiting your turn, not saying please and thank you.
MEAN BEHAVIOUR – saying or doing something hurtful to someone on purpose once or twice eg calling someone a nasty name, not letting someone play with you, hurting – pushing, kicking, hitting, teasing someone, making someone feel bad about themselves.
BULLYING BEHAVIOUR – someone more powerful saying or doing something hurtful to someone on purpose over and over again.
We discussed the 3 main types of bullying:
- Physical Bullying – pushing, kicking, punching etc on purpose over and over again.
- Verbal Bullying – teasing, name calling, saying mean things etc on purpose over and over again.
- Social Bullying – (FACE TO FACE) being left out of a group, spreading rumours etc on purpose over and over again. (CYBER BULLYING) sending nasty messages or images online or making hurtful comments online.
WHAT CAN I DO IF I’M BEING BULLIED?
All students have the right to feel safe and be safe. Being bullied can make one feel sad, anxious and lonely but things can change.
There are things students can do and doing something will help them feel like they are taking their power back.
We have School Posters in all classrooms which advise the following steps:
- Ignore
- Stay Calm and ask the person nicely to stop
- Stand up and confidently say “Leave me alone”
- Hold your hand out and say “Stop it, I don’t like it”
- Say “If you don’t stop I’ll tell a teacher”
- Talk to an adult
WHAT CAN I DO IF I WITNESS BULLYING?
- Say “just stop it” in a cool and casual way
- Say something to distract everyone like suggesting we all go and do something else
- Try to reduce the tension by saying something like “Just chill hey. Give it a rest”
- Challenge the bully by saying something like “This isn’t fair, let’s all leave”. Take the person being bullied with you.
- Walk away, leave the online chat, tell an adult, report to social media service, support the person being bullied.
- Choose not to join in.
BULLYING IS NEVER OKAY!!
Playgrounds: Keeping our children safe
To assist with keeping all of our students safe, we would like to remind everyone that our playground equipment is not permitted for use before or after school. The equipment requires a teacher on duty to supervise all children for safe play. We appreciate your support with following school procedures and to ensure our children are safe.
In addition to keeping our children safe we ask all parents to ensure they close all school gates when they enter or leave the school grounds.

ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) conducted research of curriculum systems in Finland, New Zealand, Singapore and British Columbia. They also consulted international studies (e.g. PISA and TIMSS) to see what a world-class curriculum should have included and how to prepare our students for the world in which they live today and in the future.
Assessment & Academic Reporting: The Arts & Technologies
In Semester 2, we will revert back to the previous reporting structure where Music, Dance and Drama will be listed in the report card separately. We will keep this structure for both semesters moving forward in 2024.
Reporting on Technologies:
Years 1- 6 students are reported on for Technologies one semester each year. For some year levels this means they might have, at the end of the Technologies comment, ‘not assessed this semester’. As a school we are reporting on Technologies more than is required as per the Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Framework (CARF), which states we only need to report on Technologies once per band (over a two-year banding).
Prep classes are not reported on for Technologies. They are included within the band of Prep to Year 2. As a school, we immerse our Prep students in Technologies, but only commence reporting as of Year 1. Our Prep students have been immersed in robotics all year (not assessed).
Please ensure the office has your latest email addresses in the database. These addresses are linked to the emailing of academic report cards, which will be sent to parents/carers Tuesday Week 10, Term 4.
Our Yearly Curriculum Overviews are located on the website.

QParents Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I owe?
- QParents enables you to view invoices as well as details of paid invoices. Click the ‘To Pay’ checkbox next to any invoice to make a payment.
- Note: If you are viewing the payment screen within the combined student view (accessed through the Payments tile on your home screen), click on the student name which will navigate you to the individual student profile where you can make a payment.
- Watch this videofor an overview of the payments screen and making online payments in QParents.
If I pay an invoice does that mean my child can attend the event?
- You will also need to give your ‘consent’ (permission) for your child to attend. In the past, we have sent out permission letters however we now use QParents to gain your consent. It is important that you provide consent (your permission for your child to attend the event) as well as pay for the invoice.
I notice QParents has ‘Consent Management’. What is this?
- Consent Management is a new feature in QParents. It enables you to provide consent (permission) for events/excursions. This is a great feature as it removes the paperwork previously required for every school event your child would attend (please note, you still need to pay for the event as well as give your consent- two part process).
