P & C Day
Our school community is celebrating P&C Day by recognising the amazing contribution our P&C makes to our school. We have a terrific P&C Executive who are ably supported by a number of committee members. This group continues to support the P&C business units to thrive (Outside School Hours Care, Uniform Shop and Tuckshop). As a collective, our P&C is highly focussed on making Buderim Mountain State School the best it can be for our whole school community.
Below are just some of the amazing ways our P&C supports our students, teachers and our school community:
- Funding over $1 million to enhance our new school hall construction including air conditioning, sound/lighting/curtains, a commercial kitchen, acoustics and a dividing net.
- Continuing to improve our tuckshop, uniform shop and OSHC services.
- Organising, running and supporting events such as our Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls, Movie Nights, School Discos, Working Bees, Science Nights, Year 6 Graduation, Parent Presentations, Trivia Night and the ever popular Breakfast Club.
- Funding a number of projects including additional equipment for the Year 1 playground, playground markings on various junior school paths, robotics equipment, shade sails, staff appreciation day, the chaplaincy program, Year 6 graduation, the Arts Extravaganza and custom shade cloth around the pool and tennis courts.
Our Buderim Mountain State School community is very lucky to have such an excellent P&C and we ask you to please join us in saying thank you for all of their hard work!
Fanfare
We are thrilled to announce that the Buderim Mountain Senior Concert Band has achieved a PLATINUM at FANFARE, held at Chancellor State Secondary College🏆🎶
Fanfare is the biennial state-wide festival of bands and orchestras from Queensland state schools. It showcases the exciting music-making that occurs in school-based ensembles across the state.
The band's dedication and hard work throughout the semester have truly paid off. They looked spectacular on stage in their new Performing Arts shirts, showcasing both their talent and pride in our Instrumental Music program.
A big thank-you to everyone who supported us along the Fanfare journey. Your cheers and applause made the day even more special.
We are incredibly proud of our talented Super Sonic Senior Musicians. Congratulations to all! 🎷🥁🎺
Prep Enrolments
Please be aware that this term we have started taking Prep enrolments for 2025 and we thank families who have submitted enrolment forms already. Early enrolment assists us with planning for the 2025 school year. If you are aware of any families who would like further information on our Prep program, Mr Readshaw will be taking Prep enrolment tours most Mondays from 9:30am throughout Terms 2 and 3 – please book through the school office.
Staff Farewell
Last week we farewelled Mr Joshua Baker, one of our Hub Teacher Aides. Mr Baker has taken a transfer to Gympie Special School, allowing him to be closer to home. Mr Baker started with us in 2018, and has supported many students in his time at Buderim. We all wish him the very best in his move to Gympie.

Mother's Day in the Classroom – Prep JD
Children love their mums and so writing and creating artwork and craft for the very special person in their life creates a perfect opportunity for prep children to be engaged in real life learning activities. In the lead up to mother’s day the children were very busy taking a lot of time and care creating very special gifts for their mothers. There was certainly a lot of excitement in the air as the children recalled and shared with the class why they loved their mothers so much.
Not only did the children have their special gifts for mum that they made in the classroom, but they also visited the school’s Mother’s Day stall each with their money to purchase something special for mum.
Back in the classroom children put finishing touches to their mother’s day cards and messages. It is great to see how far the children have come with their writing ability and knowledge as many of the prep children arrive at school having already been writing in the pre-literate developmental stage of writing or emergent development stage of writing. And now many of the prep children are writing in the transitional developmental stage of writing. They may use the first letter sound to represent an entire word. They begin to write the first and last letter sound. They begin to spell words phonetically - many teachers will call this 'have-a-go' spelling.
Finally, the children and their mums had a wonderful morning at school where they could spend some special time together in the classroom doing a variety of activities making wonderful memories together.
Maths in 1TF
This term we have been focusing on partitioning 1 and 2-digit numbers in different ways. Sometimes we use blocks & sticks to make or draw to show how we have partitioned a number. We always write a number sentence and write an explanation to match our working out. We have now extended this activity to partitioning 2-digit numbers into tens and ones using MABs.
Sciene in Year 2 CV
In Science we have been learning about movement. We experimented with parachutes we made in class on top of the Prep fort. We were testing how fast they went down with and without a parachute. Gravity was pulling the object down to the ground. The parachute slowed it down with air pushing up against it.

Persuasive Letters in Year 3DN
In 3DN we have been learning about writing persuasive letters. We were reading Charlotte’s Web and learning about life on a farm. We have written a persuasive letter to Mr Jenkins to say that city kids should visit a farm. By Dusty
We have been learning about persuasive letters and reading Charlotte’s Web. It was a really good book, so we decided to write a letter to Mr Jenkins to persuade him to let us go to a farm. By Bhodi
We have been reading Charlotte’s Web. It is an amazing book. It is really fun. By Teddy
In English we are writing a persuasive letter. We are writing to Mr Jenkins to ask if we can go to a farm. In the letter we have to include something that we have learnt in Charlotte’s Web. By Izaan
Poetry in Year 4 MD
In English this term we are learning about devices used in poetry, such as puns, spoonerisms and neologism. A humorous example of a pun is “A bicycle can’t stand on its own because it is two tired!” A spoonerism is when you swap the first two letters of words around, so you might say “bunny phone” instead of “funny bone”. Neologisms is when you create a new word, such as ‘glamping’. We are all enjoying learning lots about poetry.
We are also learning about convicts and how life was very different and more brutal in the 1700’s than it is today. We are learning about the first fleet and how the English people made a colony in Botany Bay.
Charlotte and Amelie 4MD
Feature articles, Space, Art and Geography in Year 5 KB
Here in 5KB we love to learn.
In English, we are learning about feature articles. We have been reading feature articles about cane toads, (yay!) and how to humanely eradicate them (gross!). We even had a comprehension assessment about the toxic toad. Now, this has made us more determined to create our own multimodal feature articles.
Mrs Dalton, our clever Science teacher, is currently teaching us about SPACE. We are now learning about the transit of Venus, celestial bodies, and the dwarf planets.
For HASS, Ms Brennan (who absolutely LOVES geography), is teaching us about LATITUDE and LONGITUDE and our wonderful world! We even got to sing the continents and oceans songs (they’re really good).
5KB thoroughly love art on a Friday afternoon. We studied Pablo Picasso and cubism and created some lovely (but weird) pieces.
Now MATHS! In maths we change with Mr Spencer. His math mind helps us to improve greatly. In maths, we get to play awesome games such as MANGAHIGH and 99math. We have been practising time, multiplication, and short division. Ms Brennan has been doing facts in the morning which helps too. Everyone is becoming an expert at maths!
Another exciting activity we participate in, is FITNESS. Our encouraging teacher shares her old passion of running and fitness through outdoor exercises. This allows us to advance our fitness.
5KB IS THE MOST AWESOME CLASS EVER! Written by 5KB students
Year 6SA is busy with Maths, History, and preparation for athletics and camp
In maths this term we have started learning about prime numbers, multiples, and factors. We learnt about the Greek Mathematician Eratosthenes who created a sieve that can help find the prime numbers. In English we have nearly finished our ‘Good Dog’ reading comprehension assessment. The assessment features a range of inference questions and opinion questions. Our other assessment for this term is creating a short story.
As the term goes by, we have had two camp meetings in preparation for camp. The first meeting was giving us an outline of camp and what to expect. At the second meeting the camp booklet was explained and we received them. We have more camp meetings later in the term and we are all looking forward to camp in Term 3, Week 1.
We have just completed our HASS Unit 2 assessment. The topic of our HASS assessment was the causes and effects of migration since federation. It was a short learning time with only three lessons needed until the assessment. In science we have done lessons about volcanoes, earthquakes, and cyclones because our topic this term is natural disasters.
In PE we have started practicing high jump, shotput, and long jump for our athletics carnival later this term. Many of us are nominating for either long jump or high jump and some of us are either doing shotput or another competitive sport. We don’t all have to compete in a competitive sport as there are also non-competitive sports. Our assessment for this term is shotput and tchoukball which is usually played with a ball, and a small elastic rebounder on each end for each team. Teams score by bouncing the ball against the rebounder and getting it to bounce on the floor without it being intercepted by the defending team. The sport was designed to limit injuries. Physical contact between players is prohibited. PE is a fun opportunity for us to get outside and stay active.

Prep News
Post office excursion:
In Week 3 the Prep classes visited the Buderim Post Office. When we arrived at the Post Office we were greeted by the Post Office Mascot – Pete the Postie. We got to buy a stamp to put on the letter we had written. Then we put the letter in the big red post box. After that we got to look around the back area of the Post Office. We saw all the private mailboxes and saw where they store all the things they sell at the Post Office. There was so much we wanted to buy! We can’t wait for our letters to arrive in our mailboxes at home.
Mothers and Special Person Morning
Last week on Thursday and Friday Prep students had the delightful opportunity to host their special mother figures in their classrooms and celebrate these amazing women in their lives. It was a wonderful, relaxing time with children and their special people as they engaged in a variety of activities including crown making, cupcake decorating, nail painting, giving massages, playing games, making bracelets, reading books and taking silly photos. It was a really wonderful and heart-warming afternoon and morning watching the interactions and specials bonds you all share. The children were all so excited about the event and in the lead up to the event as they prepared gifts and shared their experiences with their mums and grandmas, the love was evident. Some comments that teachers heard throughout the week of preparations from students about their lovely Mums and Grandmas:
I love my Mum because she loves me.
My Mum makes the best cakes and mashed potato.
I love my Mum because she cooks for me.
She tucks me into bed and kisses me.
She is really good at art but not so good at climbing and jumping.
She is as tall as a bookshelf.
I love my Grandma because she hugs me tightly.
Thanks so much to all the women making impacts in our children’s lives. Please know that your children acknowledge all you do and love you all so very much! I hope you all had a lovely Sunday celebrating the special women in your lives.
Puppet Show:
Prep children enjoyed watching an engaging and funny puppet show which featured well known nursery rhymes and traditional fairy tales. Children loved seeing familiar characters, which included; The Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and the Three Bears come to life on the puppet stage. They also sang “We’re going on a bear hunt”, met a snow bear and it snowed on us! We even got a sneak peek of the puppets behind the scenes after the show. On returning to the classroom, the children wrote about their favourite part.
Year 1 Under 8's Morning
Great fun was had at the Year One Under 8’s Day on Monday. It was a lovely sunny day where the students enjoyed a variety of activities with friends and family.
A big thank you to all the parents, grandparents and carers who attended the event and guided our Early Years students around the activities.
Thank you to Cam of Juiced up Groms, Queensland Surf Lifesaving team and the ambulance service for supporting this event and Sippy Downs Coles for donating $30 towards our Coles order.
STEM - Term 2
It is another busy term across Years 1 to 6 with STEM. This term the students have been busy:
- Year 1: coding their BluBots to complete a number of different challenges. Locating the treasure is a highlight across all classes.
- Year 2: coding a small robot called an ‘Ozobot’ (using an iPad and pens). These robots follow different colour combinations using red, blue, green and black to carry out different movements.
- Year 3: using Scratch to code their own quiz based on the content they learned across Term 1. Each student’s game has a unique look and sound to it. By the end of term they will be playing games created by their peers.
- Year 4: using both Microbits and Spheroes to complete different challenges. Both robots use drag and drop block coding to get them to move.
- Year 5: continuing their journey with drones. This term they have been busy creating their own drone business idea for the Sunshine Coast. They created business names and logos and are now designing their shop/store within the world of Minecraft.
- Year 6: using Tinkercad to create their own 3D designs. Tinkercad allows them to create their own 3D designs in an easy to use environment.
Robotics Club students are beginning to get themselves ready for RoboRave which will be held at UniSC across the first weekend of Term 3. We will have students enter both the A-Mazing and Sumo events.
A-Mazing requires the students to code a robot to follow a path made from wooden planks. The robot has to stay on the path and the teams receive points for each turn and straight completed (even if they fall off). They get 5 timed runs across the day (Saturday July 13). Sumo is like the traditional Japanese sport. Students design robots to push their opponents out of the ring. Each round is the best of 3. Students will have a number of different rounds across the day before finalists are announced (Sunday July 14).
Finally, the First Lego League students have been meeting as often as possible (afternoons after school, weekends) in preparation for the Asia Pacific Open Championships in Sydney during the next school holidays. In recent weeks we have been in contact with a team from Norway, sharing our experiences as they too are a rookie team who have entered the competition for the first time and will be travelling to Sydney for the event.
The students also had the chance to meet and talk with Jon Coghill (local Sunshine Coast musician and former drummer of Powderfinger) about their innovation project idea, ‘Audio Spotlight’. Jon had some great insights into their app idea and how the students could progress this idea into the real world. The students will look to include Jon's insights into their presentation for Sydney. Jon mentioned how proud he was to see state school students rising to the challenge that the students will face in Sydney.
Keep your eyes peeled for results from both RoboRave and First Lego League in future newsletters.
Circuit Crew Sponsorship
A huge thank you needs to go out to the following businesses who have come on board as sponsors of our robotics program and our robotics team, ‘Buderim Circuit Crew’:
- ABC Dentistry
- Air Dynamix
- Rotary Club of Buderim
- Greenhalgh Pickard Solicitors and Accountants
- Custance Excavations
The money provided will go towards subsidising new shirts for robotics club students, as well as helping to cover cost for event registrations and purchasing new equipment or parts that are needed for different events.
The new shirts are ordered and hopefully will be here before the end of term.

CROSS COUNTRY
The District Cross Country Trials were held on Monday 13th May at Bli Bli State School. Under blue sunny skies, we had some very talented BMSS students participate in their age appropriate races against 27 other North Coast District schools. Everyone at Buderim is extremely proud of all the participants who ran their best and would like to congratulate the following students for making it to the next level of competition against other Districts.
Will O, Beau B, Flossie S, Harley O, Isla W, Isla J, William J, Chanel D, Kylah D and Heidi L.
Last week I competed in District Cross Country at Bli Bli State School. My race was at 11:00am, I was feeling nervous, but watching the other races made me feel less anxious. We got called over for marshalling and put in our starting spots. The horn went off! Everyone started sprinting, except for the Buderim runners. They knew if they started sprinting, they would run out of energy. I ended up coming 4th out of 80-90 kids, and I am in the District team, attending the Regionals on the 4th of June.
By Isla W
Last Monday, the District Cross-Country was run. 32 Buderim students ran at the event. 3 age groups, 2014, 2013, and 2012. The track was at Bli-Bli State School. The course was a 1km loop and depending on age you ran the loop 2 or 3 times. The first bit of the loop was out in the open on flat grass and then a small undercover canopy hill. After that there was a sort of like a muddy pit. Some kids fell over in the muddy pit because it was very slippery and deep. There was a small downhill part towards the end of each loop that was quite nice when you were tired. Then you'd run around the tennis courts to the finish on the third lap. As you went around everyone was cheering for you and clapping for you. There was food trucks for snow cones and potato Slinkys. Some Buderim students made the district team - 10 in total. So overall a great day. By Flossie S
Year 4 - 6 Athletics Carnival
Over the next couple of weeks, our Year 4-6 students will be involved in a range of athletics events culminating in the full day Athletics Carnival planned for Thursday June 15. Students can participate in competitive and non – competitive events. This year all students born in 2012, 2013, 2014 who wish to participate in competitive events must nominate for each event they wish to participate in. Students who are aiming for selection in the school team to trial for the Nambour District team need to compete in the competitive events. Students in year 5 and 6 have been emailed the nomination online form this week, and it needs to be completed by Friday May 31 at 9am. Emails have been sent to Parents of year 4 students born in 2014, and we are asking you to work with your child to complete the online form, by Monday June 3 at 9am. Please see the newsletter calendar and/or website events calendar for specific event days. Please also be aware that events may need to be moved to different dates due to the condition of the grounds and/or wet weather.
Students who meet qualifying times and/or distances may be selected in our school athletics team, to compete at the district trials.
Due to time constraints on the day of the carnival, some athletics events will occur during break times leading up to the carnival. These include:
28 May - 200m heats – Children born: 2014 at 1.40; and children born 2013 and 2012 at 2.15
30 May - 200m finals at 2.15
9 July - 800m finals at 1.40
Discus finals TBA
Year 5 and 6 Interschool Sport
Years 5 and 6 will again participate in interschool sport this year. Students from Siena, Mooloolaba, Kuluin, Stella Maris and Buderim will all be participating. To help organise this event all students of year 5 and 6 will be nominating the sport they would like to participate in, on the three days. An information letter and a link to an online form will be sent to all parents and as a reminder to students. The sports include – NRL tag, Rugby League, Netball, Auskick and Soccer. Some sports require safety gear - mouth guard for Auskick and Rugby League.
Students will participate as a team over these three days in their nominated sport. Students will be travelling by bus to and from the sporting venue their sport will be held at. We encourage students to try a different sport to the sport they usually play. This will allow them the opportunity to learn new skills. By the end of the term, teams will have been organised and an invoice will be sent home. Please keep your eyes open for the online form which will be emailed shortly.
Sunshine Coast Regional Rugby League Trials
On Tuesday and Wednesday of week 3, Buderim Mountain was represented by both students and teachers at the Sunshine Coast Regional Rugby League Trials.
Mr Allen (coach) and Mr Neighbour (manager) worked with Will, Charlie, Kaden and Hartley with the Under 12 side. Also at the event were Tex and Ned from year 5, trialling for the Under 11 Sunshine Coast side.
Both Nambour sides played well above their weight against some tough and bigger competition.
The Under 12s had 1 loss, 1 draw and 4 wins, making it the most successful Nambour Under 12 side in 20 years, as far as Mr Allen can remember. Mr Allen and Mr Neighbour were thrilled with how the team performed and feel the entire team did Nambour District proud. Congratulations to Will who did in fact make the Regional team and will now go to the State Titles, being held at Burleigh on the Gold Coast, at the end of term 2 and into the holidays. He will be trialling to make the Qld side at this event.
The Under 11s had 2 losses, 1 draw and 2 wins. It was reported that both the Buderim boys played hard in all their games.

Scone Time - Junior choir performance
On Tuesday 7 May, our Junior Choir students visited the Buderim War Memorial Hall for their first performance of the year. Martin Duncan, former chef and restaurateur facilitates a wonderful community initiative called Scone Time, which aims to bring the community together in local halls, to indulge in scones and social activities. We were fortunate to be invited along to this event to perform three songs we have been practising this term; ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’, ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ and ‘You are my Sunshine”. The students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their performance skills and sang beautifully to a large audience of delighted community members.
Congratulations to all of our young performers and we look forward to seeing you shine on the stage once again, in celebration of our new school hall opening in early Term 3.

NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week is time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. It is about celebrating and building on respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and other Australians. The dates commemorate two significant milestone in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum (27 May) and the 1992 High Court Mabo decision. (June 3)
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will continue.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
Now more than ever, the work continues. In treaty making, in truth-telling, in understanding our history, in education, and in tackling racism. We need connection. We need respect. We need action. And we need change.
Now more than ever, we need reconciliation.
If you would like more information on National Reconciliation Week, please use the attached link:
https://www.reconciliation.org.au/
NAIDOC Week
This year NAIDOC week will be held from 7 – 14 July, and the theme is “Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud & Proud”. The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – The fire represents the enduring strength and vitality of Indigenous cultures, passed down through generations despite the challenges faced. It is a symbol of connection to the land, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As we honour this flame, we kindle the sparks of pride and unity, igniting a renewed commitment to acknowledging, preserving, and sharing the cultural heritage that enriches our nation.
"Blak, Loud and Proud" encapsulates the unapologetic celebration of Indigenous identity, empowering us to stand tall in our heritage and assert our place in the modern world. This theme calls for a reclamation of narratives, an amplification of voices, and an unwavering commitment to justice and equality. It invites all Australians to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.
Through our collective efforts, we can forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world.
In 2024, our school will celebrate “Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud & Proud” through having a Gubbi Gubbi Elder, Lyndon Davies come to school and work with all students from Prep through to year 6. Each year level will work with Lyndon on different topics. More information about our NAIDOC Week celebration will be shared in our next newsletter.

It is the parent/carer’s responsibility to bring their child to the Maroochydore State School Dental Clinic for care.
Parents / legal guardians should complete a Child Oral Health Consent and Medical History Form and bring to your child's appointment along with a Medicare card linked to your child.
If you have any questions, or would like to make an appointment, please contact the Maroochydore State School Dental Clinic. Ph: 54433 929 or Email: mailto:sc-maroochy-schooldental@health.qld.gov.au
Road Safety
A reminder to all students to remember to use the supervised crossings or to cross at lights when leaving the school grounds. Students have been reminded to cross at lights when the traffic lights are Red, and the walk symbol is green. Thank you for keeping our students safe by using designated crossings.
Parking
A reminder to all parents and caregivers to ensure you park legally around the school when dropping off and picking up students. This includes not parking on private property. We have recently had a request from the Uniting Church of Buderim (located on Gloucester Road) to remind parents and caregivers to not park on the church grounds. We appreciate your support with this.
School Uniform
Thank you to all families who ensure students are in full school uniform each day. As the weather is continuing to get cooler this term, it is important that all students continue to wear the correct Buderim Mountain State School winter uniform. We are fortunate to have excellent support from our parents in ensuring students are in full school uniform each day. Thank you for continuing this and only wearing the following winter uniform to school:
- Unisex jackets – bottle green and maroon double fleece with embroidered logo
- Unisex pullovers – bottle green and maroon double fleece with embroidered logo
- Long bottle green tracksuit or cargo pants, or bottle green tights under skorts
- Additional winter items must be plain bottle green or maroon in colour (including jumpers)
The current Buderim Mountain State School Uniform can be found in the below link:
Nambour Show Holiday
A reminder to all families that the Nambour Show Holiday is on Friday June 14. The school will be closed on this day due to it being a public holiday.
PERKS
During week 7 students will attend their second PERKS lesson for this term. In our PERKS lesson, we will be focusing on our emotions and self-regulation. Self-regulation allows us to manage our feelings or emotions when we are faced with a situation that is tough to handle.
Key messages are:
- Everyone has feelings
- It’s okay to talk about your feelings
- Get to know your feelings
Our students were introduced to the “ZONES OF REGULATION” which are colour coded.
- GREEN EMOTIONS – “I AM GOOD TO GO”
- YELLOW EMOTIONS – “I NEED TO TAKE CARE”
- BLUE EMOTIONS – “I AM RUNNING LOW”
- RED EMOTIONS – “I NEED TO STOP”
In relation to the various types of emotions, we discussed what each of the zones looks like and what it feels like so that students are able to identify what they are feeling and take steps to regulate those feelings where necessary.
The ideal zone to be operating in is the GREEN ZONE and students were given some strategies on how to get back to the green zone through co-regulation or self-regulation.
Students in Prep to Year 3 will use the EMOTION THERMOMETERS (see poster below) to help them self-regulate while students in Years 4 to 6 will use the ZONES OF REGULATION mat (see poster below). The third poster gives strategies on how to get ourselves back into the GREEN ZONE if we find ourselves in another one.
Teachers will follow up with this learning in classrooms. We invite you to chat with your children about their understandings and how they might use this new knowledge.
General Procedures
Signing in and out:
Thank you to all families for ensuring that students are signed in and out of the Health Room at the front of the school if students are late to school or are departing early from school. This ensures all students are accounted for at all times.
Forgotten Lunch:
Thank you also to all families for ensuring students attend school with their lunch in their bag or their tuckshop ordered. Any students who have forgotten their lunch should go to the school office for assistance.
Playgrounds:
To assist with keeping all of our students safe, we would like to remind everyone our playground equipment is not permitted for use before or after school. The equipment requires a teacher on duty to supervise all children for safe play. To further assist in keeping our students safe, we would like to remind all people entering and leaving our school grounds to kindly close the gate behind them, and to use the crossings around our school when moving across roads. We appreciate your support with following school procedures and to ensure our children are safe.
Keeping students safe before school:
While we do find our students are well behaved before school and we do have many staff at school at this time, staff members are busy preparing for our students’ daily education. We do encourage students to not arrive at school prior to 8:30am unless supervised by a parent or the Before School Care program staff. Our wonderful P&C provides a fully supervised Before School Care program from 6am, for any family who may need to drop their child at school before 8:30. Our staff also provide some supervision at our Elizabeth Street pick up zone each afternoon to assist with collecting students. We do understand the complexity for parents outside school hours with work commitments, which is why our P&C provides a Before & After School Hours Care program. Further details can be found at https://www.buderimoshc.org/
National Walk to School Day
A big thank you to all of our community members who assisted with National Walk to School Day and particularly the Buderim Lions who organise our weekly Walk to School Wednesday program. We had plenty of children involved this year and thanks also to our parents who support this program. All students who participated were given participation ribbons.
National Road Safety Week reminds us that children up to the age of ten, should always hold the hand of an adult when they are crossing a road.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual state-wide initiative for Queensland state school students from Prep to Year 6. The PRC aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
Key dates | Activity |
7 May | Reading period commenced for Prep to Year 6 students |
23 August | Reading period ends Student reading record forms submitted to schools |
October 2024 | Certificates of Achievement issued |
If your child wishes to participate in the challenge, a Reader Record Form can be collected from the library. Years 3 to 6 students are to record the books they have read on the Reader Record Form and return it to the library by Friday 23rd August.
All Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will complete the challenge in class. Therefore, these students will not need to have an individual Reader Record Form because they read the required number of books with their teachers.
Thank you to all our wonderful students, families and volunteers for making our Book Fair a huge success!!!!
We will be able to fill our library with many new books using the Scholastic school rewards system.
Happy reading,
Library Team

QParents Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I owe?
- QParents enables you to view invoices as well as details of paid invoices. Click the ‘To Pay’ checkbox next to any invoice to make a payment.
- Note: If you are viewing the payment screen within the combined student view (accessed through the Payments tile on your home screen), click on the student name which will navigate you to the individual student profile where you can make a payment.
- Watch this video for an overview of the payments screen and making online payments in QParents.
If I pay an invoice does that mean my child can attend the event?
- You will also need to give your ‘consent’ (permission) for your child to attend. In the past, we have sent out permission letters however, we now use QParents to gain your consent. It is important that you provide consent (your permission for your child to attend the event) as well as pay for the invoice.
I notice QParents has ‘Consent Management’. What is this?
- Consent Management is a new feature in QParents. It enables you to provide consent (permission) for events/excursions. This is a great feature as it removes the paperwork previously required for every school event your child would attend (please note, you still need to pay for the event as well as give your consent- two part process).
2024 SRS
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) includes curriculum resources that are not funded by the department (such as text books, equipment for students' personal use and items used by the student in the classroom). The SRS provides parents with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to individually sourcing curriculum resources and educational programs (i.e. Mathletics, Mathseeds, Reading Eggs).
The scheme ensures that students have the resources required for them to engage with the curriculum for their education, and saves parents time and money in sourcing the prescribed materials elsewhere. Savings are gained through the school’s bulk purchasing practices and hiring arrangements. The scheme is not used to raise funds for other purposes, and revenue collected through the scheme is applied only to the resources and operation of the scheme.
The scheme’s operation, resource inclusions and participation fees were approved by the school’s P&C Association at the meeting held on 10 October 2023.
Resource Inclusions
- All resources included in the SRS are detailed in the attached SRS Resource list. This list is also available on the school’s website. This is a comprehensive list of all resources included in the scheme and their associated costs
- All invoicing for the 2024 SRS has been issued via QParents

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL HOURS CARE (OSHC)
BUDERIM OSHC WINNERS: Awarded OSHC of the Year, 2024
We are incredibly proud to announce that at the P&C Awards last weekend, Buderim OSHC was announced Queensland’s BEST Outside of School Hours Care provider for 2024.
After a rigorous application and awards process where every aspect of our OSHC service was examined in detail, the judges found Buderim OSHC offers the highest level of informed, evidence-based and child-based care for school aged children across the state. From the level of planning that goes into the service program through to the proficiency of staff training and superior service delivery to children, our staff truly surpassed all standards and expectations. It is truly gratifying to now receive an award that acknowledges this level of care and supreme effort on behalf of our staff.
We extend our congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Buderim OSHC Director, Adam Barrett, who has captained and championed Buderim OSHC in a way no other person could. We also thank Faith Grogan for her huge support for Adam and for being such a guiding light at Buderim OSHC - the service wouldn’t be what it is without the efforts of Adam and Faith.
We also thank BMSS Principal, Neil Jenkins, and our P&C Operations Manager, Rachel O’Brien, for providing the support and resources needed to help make Buderim OSHC so successful and a haven for BMSS children before and after school. It was also gratifying to have our P&C Accounts Manager, Naomi Jones, and Bankisa Cafe Manager, Fiona Gambasin, at the awards ceremony on the Gold Coast in support of Adam and Buderim OSHC.
Congratulations, Buderim OSHC. You are officially AWESOME!
