2025 Prep Enrolments
Please be aware that this term we are continuing to take Prep enrolments for 2025 and we thank families who have submitted enrolment forms already. Early enrolment assists us with planning for the 2025 school year. If you are aware of any families who would like further information on our Prep program, Mr Readshaw will be taking Prep enrolment tours most Mondays from 9:30am throughout Term 3 – please book through the school office.
2025 Classes
At the start of next term, we will begin the process of developing class lists for 2025. This process is always predicted for the beginning of the school year and confirmed on the eighth day of the new school year. At Buderim Mountain State School, we have a very detailed process, which takes place over a number of weeks to create classes. This includes use of a software program to assist with the creation of classes based on gender, academics and appropriate learning partners.
If parents have any specific requests regarding their child’s placement for 2025, please send an email to our administration staff by Friday 13 September to info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au. Please be aware of the following:
- Parents are not able to request a specific teacher for their child.
- Please do not submit any requests for your child to be placed with another child, as all children will do this at school, by choosing up to 5 learning partners they would like to be in a class with – we do guarantee that they will be placed with at least 1 of the learning partners they have requested.
- Generally, the request needs to identify characteristics or concerns relating to your child which you feel need to be taken into consideration in regards to class placement.
- Students will be informed of their provisional 2025 class in the final week of the school year (Wednesday 11 December) via an email to parents.
- While all requests are given due consideration, please be aware that it is not always possible to guarantee these requests.
- We are unable to consider any requests submitted after the due date (end of Term 3).
Parking Request
Please be aware that we have had requests from local residents to not park across their driveways when picking up or dropping off children – this includes when the driver is still in the vehicle. Sunshine Coast Regional Council have let us know they will be monitoring this via cameras and mobile parking inspector teams.
Year 1 Fire Safety
This term, Year 1 have been lucky enough to have had two visits from our local fire brigade. We learned all about the importance of fire safety, practiced ‘get down low and go, go, go!’, explored the important equipment within a fire engine, learnt that once out of a fire we need to stay out, and even got to have a go using the fire hose to put out a pretend fire! A big thank you to Bruce, Cam, and Terry from our local Buderim Fire and Rescue Station for taking the time to visit us!
Year 1 challenge all of our families to do the following:
- Count how many fire alarms are in your house
- Test your fire alarms to check if they work
- Learn your home address
- Learn your parent/carer’s phone number
- Come up with and practise a fire escape plan with your family
Year 2 Sea Life excursion
On 18 and 19 of July, the Year 2 children ventured out to explore the whimsical underwater wonderland at Sealife Aquarium.
These budding biologists were treated to a guided tour of the many animal displays, as they sought to learn more about the oceanic animals that can be found there.
Some of the highlights for the students included learning how to recognise the difference between sharks and rays, as well as a comical performance from Ruby, one of the seals at Sea Life. This inquisitive Pinniped (seal) put on a show by playing hide and seek with the children through the glass of her enclosure.
Thank you to all of our parent helpers who made it such an incredible experience.
“My favourite things at Sealife were seeing the seals and going into the tunnel to see the sharks and stingrays.” -Bastian.

PREP ES
This term, Prep ES has been having a wonderful time learning about living things by exploring our local park. Each Friday we stroll over to the Buderim Village playground to investigate the living things in this special area. Our children love to learn in nature, through real-life, hands-on exploration. We are learning lots about the animals and plants that frequent our local community. The children have many scientific questions, and enjoy researching and discovering the answers to their wonderings by exploring our Buderim parkland. How fortunate we are to have such a beautiful place at our fingertips!

We are loving the book, Rowan of Rin, because it is really entertaining. We love the suspenseful music and tension at the end of each chapter, making us want to read and listen on to the end. Emily Rodda is an excellent descriptive writer. She describes Rowan’s character very well as he develops and becomes stronger and braver each chapter. The language she uses really paints vivid pictures in our minds of all the characters and events. We love how every few chapters one of the supposedly “bravest heroes” leaves, but Rowan is still there. Studying Emily Rodda’s writing, is really helping to improve ours' too.
By all of us in 4DJ
This term, in Year 4 English, we have been studying the book “Rowan of Rin”. We are learning to explain how Emily Rodda uses language features to represent Rowan. We are getting better at being able to name the noun groups and verb groups and different phrases she uses to represent Rowan.
By Abigail and Charlotte
Our favourite part of English in 4DJ is free writing our own stories. We really like getting time to write stories of our own. We plan them first, then when we are finished writing, we share with a buddy, get feedback, and complete an editing checklist, before going to our teacher for some final advice. When we are ready, we get to publish our work, and print it out for our whole class to enjoy.
By Jayda and Halle, Luca and Henry K
In Year 4 Science we have been learning about different materials and properties. Our favourites are learning about natural and synthetic materials, and how plastics, minerals and metals are formed.
Written by Tayla and Layla
This term in Year 4 Maths we are learning about fractions and decimals.
We can convert fractions to decimals, for example 2/5 = 4/10 = 0.4 By Paso and Harry
Our favourite part of Maths this term is learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions, for example 9/4 = 2 and one quarter. By Connor and Finn
We really like working in our Aspire group. We also enjoy when we play Decimal Bingo, Decimal Battleships or Wish ball Decimals. These games are fun and help our Maths. By Aver and Atticus
Maths is really fun and helpful for our minds. My favourite part of maths activities is when we practice addition and subtraction sums in our Maths groups. My absolute favourite weekly maths activity is when we complete our 100 multiplication facts. I really like how our teacher, Ms Jeffers, times us and we get faster and more accurate. By Elanor and Jesse
Our favourite part of maths is how we are improving in our 100 maths facts too, we also like the assessments and our Aspire group. By Hudson and Henry P
Our favourite part of maths is our multiplication tables and dividing numbers by 100, for example 3655 ÷100 = 36.55. We are very good at it. By Joshua and Jake
5MT
In English we have been studying the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as the movie. We are learning to compare and contrast so we can write a comparison. We really love reading the book because it is entertaining and funny. We have also loved watching the movie because of the songs and humour scenes.
In Science we have been learning about light and the eye. We have been undertaking experiments in the classroom to get a better understanding of how light moves. Light does 3 things when it comes in contact with an object, it can get absorbed (absorption), it can transmit through the object (transmission), or it can reflect off the object(reflection). We have also been learning about the eye and how it sees different colours.
In Maths we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. We are also learning about how to turn a fraction into both a decimal and percentage. We have also been learning how to add unlike, and related fractions.
In HASS we have been learning what it was like during the Gold Rush. We have loved learning about what it was like for the diggers on the goldfields and the events that happened during the Eureka Stockade. We have also been learning that the Eureka Stockade led to Australian democracy.
In Year 5 the thing we’ve loved the most is Elev8 Sports. This was a leadership/sports program to teach us how to be a good leader. We loved it when we had to work together to solve a problem/ get points. Also, when we went to the cosmodome in Term 2, we were able to see what it is like in space. All the space satellites that orbit and give us information about weather patterns and GPS signals.
6CP
Our names are Maddie & Ayla, and we will be de-briefing about what year 6 has been up to lately. To start with, in English these past couple of weeks we have been focusing on writing a letter from a perspective of a 12-year-old in 1949. To do this assessment, we had to evoke a sense of time and place. We also had to use many language features, to make our story interesting and complete. These include objective language, subjective language, noun groups, complex sentences, compound sentences, simple sentences, conjunctions and fanboys (We use the abbreviation I - SAW- A-WABUB.) For the first few weeks of the term, in maths, we investigated data. This focused on Mode, Mean, Median and Range. We used these four terms to interpret dot plots, column graphs and line graphs. Currently our unit is fractions. We have been looking at all sorts of fractions including mixed fractions, standard fractions, improper fractions, as well as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing them. In HASS, we have been looking into Mapping. This has included looking into how to read coordinates, such as longitude & latitude. However, currently we are looking into diversity. This has included comparing different countries’ environmental & human characteristics such as: GNI, population, foreign aid, life expectancy, business links and their resources. For our assessment, we must look at the characteristics each country has, compare them, and say what impacts those factors have on the country itself. Finally, in science we have been doing many fun electrical circuit experiments with Mrs Miles (6CP’s science teacher). We have also learnt about insulators, conductors and what you can make with many resources. In the experiments that we have been conducting, we have been tasked to create a circuit with a battery, wires, and a light bulb. We have also been investigating with different materials to create a conductor or an insulator. For context, a conductor allows electrons to travel through along with their atoms. Whereas an insulator does not allow any electricity to travel through the circuit.
We hope you have enjoyed reading our summary of this term. Have a great week!

Paul Franklin Shield - Rugby League Competition
In week 3 of term 3, Buderim Mountain entered a mixed year 5 and 6 rugby league side into the 2024 Paul Franklin Shield rugby league carnival. It is the first leg of the Mark West Cup carnival that is run for the Sunshine Coast Region. All primary schools are invited to participate.
Our team has actually been training since term 1 this year (when it wasn’t raining) and were called the Mark West Cup Squad.
The Paul Franklin carnival day was excellent in terms of organisation, participation and results.
Our side finished in 2nd place and were unlucky not to have won the day.
We won all of our pool matches convincingly. This placed us in the semi-finals which we also won progressing to the final. Ironically, we loaned some players to a smaller school who we played in this semi against us which was great to see. We went down by a couple of tries in the final, but gave it our best.
Thank you to Mr Jackson and Mr Allan for your good work on the day.
We are looking forward to next year when we will enter again and more students will get to experience playing rugby league (the greatest game of all!).
Mr Allen
Coaching Coordinator

Year 3 Cosmodome Incursion
On Friday, August 9, the 7 Year 3 classes were extremely lucky to attend our Science Incursion in the new Hall. We were in a giant dome where we learnt lots of interesting facts about the Sun, Earth and our Moon. There was a crazy cartoon coyote who had ideas about the Sun, Earth and Moon and he thought he was an expert. He was very funny, but he had so many misconceptions! As we lay on our backs looking up, we learnt about the constellations in the night sky, and it felt like we were actually in space. This incursion improved our knowledge, and it was a wonderful experience for all of us.
Evelyn F and Lydia M 3KC
PERKS
In Term 3 both of our PERKS lessons focused on Friendship.
In the second lesson, students revisited the friendship see saw and were introduced to a model to help them resolve issues that may arise in friendship groups. This process was modelled for the students, then they participated in completing a shared one with Mrs Brennan and their class teacher. Students have the framework in their classrooms to practice and use when necessary.
We call it the POOCH method and looks like this:
Free Dress Day
Friday 16 August is a free dress day to support Bullying No Way Day, with students wearing Orange or Purple to support this cause. Friday 13 September will be a ‘Team colours’ free dress day to support Fight Cancer Foundation. Our school leaders will collect a gold coin donation for all students participating. The money being donated will be equally shared between the charity and student council who are raising money to purchase additional sports equipment for each play area.
Celebrating Chappy Week
Chappy week was jam packed with fun. Some of the activities included:
- A morning tea to thank our generous sponsors and highlight successes within the Chaplaincy program at Buderim
- Student leaders organising and assisting in lunch time activities
- Mr Allan dressed up as a Mad scientist while students sought to solve and replicate a molecule using toothpicks and various lollies
- International friendship day and making cards to give out to show kindness
- Shining bright in 6CP while we were exploring the topic – Love who you are
- A game of 9 squares in the air with year 5 students
- Showed kindness to school staff by giving them home baked treats and a free coffee from Banskia café
Not all of us can do great things but we can all do small things with great love. Chaplaincy provides numerous engaging activities and programs that help support and encourage a sense of belonging among all students at our wonderful school.
I was made to feel very special during Chappy Week, and enjoyed having a full week to focus on the important role Chaplaincy has in our schools.

QParents is a simple way to pay for any school excursions or fees without having to send money or paperwork back to the school. Parents can also gain an update on their child’s attendance and submit absence information. Finally, parents can update personal details automatically and students’ past report cards can be accessed via QParents. If you have not received an invitation, please advise us immediately.
Instrumental Music
Qld Symphony Orchestra Excursion 2024
On Friday, 2 August our Senior Instrumental Music students had the opportunity to attend an inspiring excursion in Brisbane to see the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in concert entitled, “Heroic Tales”. This concert featured two beloved classical masterpieces: Richard Strauss’ "Ein Heldenleben" (A Hero’s Life) and Maurice Ravel’s "Shéhérazade" for Voice and Orchestra from The Arabian Nights.
Before the concert the students enjoyed a delightful picnic, and the sporting events of soccer, handball and table tennis at Southbank Parklands.
As the students arrived at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and spotted the orchestra onstage for the first time, there was a collective sound of ‘WOW!’ It was such a delight to see the students so moved by the breathtaking atmosphere of a live orchestra performance. Seated in the stalls, they enjoyed a prime view of the spectacular orchestra.
The students experienced a captivating hour and a quarter of exceptional soprano singing and orchestra music. Whilst the two works performed were rather heavy and long, the students gained valuable insight into orchestral etiquette, dynamic contrasts, proper playing posture and the orchestra’s responsiveness to the conductor. It is not often that school children get the opportunity to witness performances of this magnitude.
It was the most wonderful day for our budding musicians and our Buderim Mountain students demonstrated exemplary behaviour. Thank you to our dedicated staff and parent volunteers. We certainly couldn’t have done it without your help in keeping our students safe. It was truly a memorable and enriching experience for our Instrumental music students which will undoubtedly enhance our students’ growth as musicians.

Curriculum Corner
The Australian Curriculum
The Australian Curriculum aims to equip students with the skills to be confident, creative individuals and engaged, informed citizens. It outlines the learning objectives for all students as they advance through their education, regardless of their location in Australia or the type of school they attend.
What are the learning areas of the Australian Curriculum?
From the first year of schooling to Year 10, students begin developing knowledge and skills in eight learning areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Health and Physical Education (HPE)
- Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
- The Arts
- Technologies
- Languages
In the early years, priority is given to literacy and numeracy development as the foundations for further learning. As students make their way through the primary years, they focus more on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all eight learning areas.
There are three dimensions in the Australian Curriculum:
- Learning areas
- General capabilities
- Cross-curriculum priorities.
Learning areas
The Australian Curriculum is organised into learning areas and subjects. Some learning areas bring a number of subjects together: Humanities and Social Sciences includes History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship, and Economics and Business; The Arts includes Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music and Visual Arts; Technologies includes Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies. Learning areas contain content descriptions that detail knowledge, understanding and skills to be taught each year or across a band of years. These content descriptions are accompanied by achievement standards that describe what students will know and will be able to do as a result of teaching and learning in the classroom.
General capabilities
General capabilities are included in the content of the learning areas. These are the skills and abilities intended to help prepare young Australians to learn, live and work in the 21st century. The Australian Curriculum has seven general capabilities:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Capability
- Critical and Creative Thinking
- Personal and Social Capability
- Ethical Understanding
- Intercultural Understanding
Cross-curriculum priorities
In a similar way, there are three priorities critical to Australia’s future:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Histories and Culture
- Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia
- Sustainability
They build across the curriculum and allow students to connect the content of learning areas.
Every student is unique, with different needs and interests. Teachers use the curriculum to plan in ways that respond to those needs and interests. The Australian Curriculum is flexible, allowing schools and teachers to personalise student learning. In Weeks 8 and 9 of this term, all classroom teachers will be involved in year level planning days. On planning days, we spend time unpacking the curriculum, making links between learning areas and finalising assessment tasks for the following term. This ensures consistency across all classrooms in the year level.

General Procedures
Signing in and out:
Thank you to all families for ensuring that students are signed in and out of the Health Room at the front of the school if students are late to school or are departing early from school. This ensures all students are accounted for at all times.
Forgotten Lunch:
Thank you also to all families for ensuring students attend school with their lunch in their bag or their tuckshop ordered. Any students who have forgotten their lunch should go to the school office for assistance.
Playgrounds:
To assist with keeping all of our students safe, we would like to remind everyone our playground equipment is not permitted for use before or after school. The equipment requires a teacher on duty to supervise all children for safe play. To further assist in keeping our students safe, we would like to remind all people entering and leaving our school grounds to kindly close the gate behind them, and to use the crossings around our school when moving across roads. We appreciate your support with following school procedures and to ensure our children are safe.
Keeping students safe before school:
While we do find our students are well behaved before school and we do have many staff at school at this time, staff members are busy preparing for our students’ daily education. We do encourage students to not arrive at school prior to 8:15am unless supervised by a parent or the Before School Care program staff. Our wonderful P&C provides a fully supervised Before School Care program from 6am, for any family who may need to drop their child at school before 8:15. Our staff also provide some supervision at our Elizabeth Street pick up zone each afternoon to assist with collecting students. We do understand the complexity for parents outside school hours with work commitments, which is why our P&C provides a Before & After School Hours Care program. Further details can be found at https://www.buderimoshc.org/
Royal Australian Artillery Band Performance
On Saturday October 19, from 2 - 4pm the Buderim Lions have organised a performance by the Band of the 1st Regiment Royal Australian Artillery in our school hall. All money raised through this concert goes to supporting the Mates4Mates Charity. Mates4Mates provides support and rehabilitation services to current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force members who have physical or psychological injuries as a result of their service, and their families.

QParents Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I owe?
- QParents enables you to view invoices as well as details of paid invoices. Click the ‘To Pay’ checkbox next to any invoice to make a payment.
- Note: If you are viewing the payment screen within the combined student view (accessed through the Payments tile on your home screen), click on the student name which will navigate you to the individual student profile where you can make a payment.
- Watch this video for an overview of the payments screen and making online payments in QParents.
If I pay an invoice does that mean my child can attend the event?
- You will also need to give your ‘consent’ (permission) for your child to attend. In the past, we have sent out permission letters however, we now use QParents to gain your consent. It is important that you provide consent (your permission for your child to attend the event) as well as pay for the invoice.
I notice QParents has ‘Consent Management’. What is this?
- Consent Management is a new feature in QParents. It enables you to provide consent (permission) for events/excursions. This is a great feature as it removes the paperwork previously required for every school event your child would attend (please note, you still need to pay for the event as well as give your consent- two part process).
2024 SRS
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) includes curriculum resources that are not funded by the department (such as text books, equipment for students' personal use and items used by the student in the classroom). The SRS provides parents with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to individually sourcing curriculum resources and educational programs (i.e. Mathletics, Mathseeds, Reading Eggs).
The scheme ensures that students have the resources required for them to engage with the curriculum for their education, and saves parents time and money in sourcing the prescribed materials elsewhere. Savings are gained through the school’s bulk purchasing practices and hiring arrangements. The scheme is not used to raise funds for other purposes, and revenue collected through the scheme is applied only to the resources and operation of the scheme.
The scheme’s operation, resource inclusions and participation fees were approved by the school’s P&C Association at the meeting held on 10 October 2023.
Resource Inclusions
- All resources included in the SRS are detailed in the attached SRS Resource list. This list is also available on the school’s website. This is a comprehensive list of all resources included in the scheme and their associated costs
- All invoicing for the 2024 SRS has been issued via QParents
