Staff Recognition Day
Each year, a special afternoon tea is held for all of our Buderim Mountain State School staff to acknowledge the terrific contribution they make to our school each and every day. We have approximately 120 staff members at Buderim including teachers, cleaners, teacher aides, administration and office staff, support staff and grounds staff. It is this group of very dedicated and hard working staff who help to make Buderim Mountain State School such an excellent school.
A huge thank you must go to our P&C and Banksia Café staff for organising the catering for the afternoon tea. Our staff felt very appreciated and spoilt.
P&C Executive
A big thank you to Maja Grose who has been nominated and elected as our new P&C President. Rachel O’Brien vacated this position after 5 years as our P&C President and is now our P&C Operations Manager. Thank you to both ladies for their ongoing support and dedication to our school.
2025 Prep Enrolments
To assist the school in planning for our 2025 Prep classes, could all parents please ensure all enrolment paperwork is submitted as soon as possible. If you have enrolled your child and are yet to book in for a Prep information session, please contact the school office to secure your place. Bookings are essential and can be made through the office.
Year 1 visit to Wildlife HQ
This term, the Year One students visited Wildlife HQ. During the visit, a zookeeper spoke to us about 3 animals. We were able to touch the skins of a variety of animals. Outside in the enclosure we could mingle with the goats, deer and kangaroos. We visited a variety of animals while walking around the zoo and had to make sure we used the gates correctly so to not let the animals out, especially the deer who had tried but failed a couple of times before we got there. We arrived back tired but happy that we had had such a lovely day exploring the zoo.
The skink's skin was smooth and bumpy and was covered in a range of earthy colours.
The python was smooth and some of us were a little bit scared to touch it.
The koala had a thick pad of fur on its bottom because it sits on it asleep for twenty hours each day.
Lightning Cup Netball
On Friday 23 August, our Year 6 students competed in the ‘Lightning Netball Cup’ at Maroochydore Sports Complex.
The competitive, inclusive carnival included 3 divisions. This year we fielded 3 teams. One in the Championship girls division (Lightning Cup), one in the Development girls division (Thunder Cup) and the boys in the Storm division.
We all started the day with a warm up dance with Lucy Lightning. Then the festivities began with the games and the Lightning Strike Zone which was set up on the day, including music, merchandise, sprint relay races and food trucks as well as special appearances and signing sessions throughout the day by Lightning players.
This year our Thunder team fought hard with all games being very close.
Our Lightning Girls team placed 4th overall in their division, narrowly missing the final.
The Storm Boys team were the winners of their division, after being undefeated all day and playing hard for a Grand final win.
All players and teams displayed great sportsmanship and effort throughout the day. It was a fierce competition, but everyone played hard and fair, making it a memorable event for both participants and spectators. Congratulations to all!
All Abilities Awareness Week
In Week 10 of term 4, the HUB team hosted a week of activities to promote this event.
The slogan this year was ‘Every-body has a role to play’ and the aim of this week was to increase students’ understanding of what it might be like to have a disability. HUB staff, with the assistance of trained Year 5 student volunteers, ran hands-on activities and games during both breaks in the new hall and students across the school were invited to participate.
Every session was a sell out!
Although the activities were fun (as per participant feedback), they allowed students to experience a snap-shot of what life might be like if they had a different ability. The Year 5 volunteers did an exceptional job; confidently running the activities, and their confidence and patience was commendable.
Over 21% of the Australian population has a disability, according to the 2022 ABS data, which further highlights the need for understanding.
Kops in Kilts
The Kops in Kilts concert was amazing! We loved how they represented their Scottish heritage and culture through using the bagpipes, snare and bass drum. They stunned us all by using their impressive musical talent to travel the world using some popular songs like Waltzing Matilda, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and Limbo Rock. They also educated us about some bagpipe notes which are A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and high A. All of the performers were wearing traditional kilts and a sporran. They had us all join in, clap along and sing for many of the songs. It was an awesome concert, which was educational and fun. 4JM
Instrumental Music Performance and Awards Evening
In August this year, more than 300 State Primary Instrumental Music students took part in the Sunshine Coast Instrumental Music Ensemble Program (SCIMEP) workshops. More than 500 students across 30 State Primary Schools in the Sunshine Coast Region auditioned for a place in this event which was held at Venue 114 across several days. 37 fortunate Buderim Mountain students earned a place in the Program. Students had the opportunity to extend their learning by working with music professionals from within and outside Education Queensland. The workshops concluded with a concert for parents. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to participate in the SCIMEP workshop:
Alexander McR, Beau B, Benjamin H, Evelyn B, George R, Lucinda F, Talei B, Ella D, Hayoon K, Heidi Van R, Max Z, Neiva R, Tatyana M-S, Giosue' F, Zac T, Jack M, Luella C, Rachel R, Viktoria M, Alex L, Alexander C, Ceilidh McI, Daisy E, Harley O, Kai G, Mia V, Poppy Van G, Sophia R, William J, Emma R, Enaara T, Evie N, Hannah F, Hannah P, Heidi L, Henry P, Isaac C, Lara C, Meika C.
On Tuesday October 22, we will be holding our Instrumental Music performance and awards evening, starting at 6pm in our school hall. Everyone is invited to attend and view the incredible talents of our instrumental music students, as both our concert band and strings orchestras perform.
Year 5 Living History Incursion
In year 5 we have been learning about Colonial Australia and the Gold Rush. We have learnt what it was like to be in Australia during the gold rush, the different cultures that came to Australia and how the gold rush has made an impact on our life today. For this unit we went to a Living History Incursion in our new school hall.
It was really fun, and we were told stories to explain what life was like and some students got to volunteer and be characters in the stories. After the presentation we were able to dress up in olden aged clothes from the time of the gold rush. The ladies had to wear an under skirt and lots of layers. It was hard to put the skirts on. We also got to look at really cool things like weapons, spin tops, books and much more. It was a great way to experience what life was like during the Gold Rush.
Billy Moore Rugby League Gala Day
Buderim Mountain entered five sides into the 2024 Billy Moore Gala Day. This is a rugby league carnival run by the NRL development officers to maximise participation for children in grades 5 and 6.
They have split the Sunshine Coast into 2 zones and we attended the gala day at Maroochydore on Wednesday the 4 September . It has grown to having approximately 50 different teams with approximately 10 players per side - making it a big event on the school Rugby League calendar.
Between our five teams – Year 5 Maroons – Year 5 Greens – Year 6 Maroons – Year 6 Greens – Year 5/6 Girls, we played 20 games for about equal wins with losses. The day is focussed on being a participation event, but it is always nice to go away with some positive results and each team had at least one win on the day (not that we scored the matches). The children that gave Rugby League a go for the very first time, improved out of sight. Even if this is the only League they will ever play, I am confident it will have been a great experience. I certainly saw some players that I would love to see playing club footy in the future. It was also great to have a girls’ team having a go.
Thank you to Mr Allan, Mr Jackson, Mr Neighbour, Mr Eakins and Miss Page for your good work and coaching on the day.
Mr Allen
Coaching Coordinator

In Our Classrooms
Prep SI
We are having an amazing start to term 4 in Prep SI. In English we are reading the ‘Macca the Alpaca’ series. The children are so excited to take Macca home for a sleepover and write about all of the adventures they go on together.
In Science we are investigating how our bodies and objects move by using our five senses. The children love exploring our local community, and we will be visiting our local Buderim Mechanic and Fire Station to observe how objects move. The students are very curious with the world around them and ask 'I wonder questions' to find out more.
‘I wonder how wind moves’ (Harriet), ‘I wonder how bikes move’ (Nathan), ‘I wonder how toys that are cars move by themselves after you pull them back’ (Olivia)
In Maths the children have been creating their own patterned necklace and continuing and creating a body movement pattern. We are learning to partition numbers up to 20 and compare collections to at least 20.
Mackenzie- I love writing because I love learning. I like my classroom. I like Macca the Alpaca.
Laecey- I love that I learn something new every day. That I have a wonderful teacher.
Willow- I love learning about writing. We write about Macca the Alpaca. I like making friends at school.
Sonny- I liked learning about patterns. I love my classroom. I love living things. They need food, water, warmth, shelter and oxygen. I love the playground at school. I love my school.
1CP
What 1CP say they love about literacy groups.
Yellow box is my favourite because it’s challenging and I need to get the questions correct without looking at the answers.
I like reading because it helps us learn how to read and spell. We use the whisper phones because you can hear yourself read softly and if you say the wrong word you can hear it.
In groups we do activities on the BenQ. The spelling game teaches us how to spell and if we get it right we get balloons, fireworks, stickers or stars and if we get it wrong it bounces out of the spot. We also like the game that teaches us about adverbs, adjectives, verbs and nouns.
2SM
“In our English this term we have been writing about procedures. We read the book George’s Marvellous Medicine and then we wrote a procedure of George’s Marvellous Pizza. We had to tell George how to make a pizza for his grandma. We put lots of disgusting ingredients on the pizzas like rotten, crispy worms and squished, gross cockroaches.” Harris 2SM
“In Science this term we have been learning about materials. We made lunch boxes by combining cardboard and foil, plastic or paper to try and make a water resistant lining for the inside. We then tested our lunch boxes to see how strong they were and whether or not the inside was water resistant. It was lots of fun!” Florence 2SM
3KC
3KC is an amazing class. It’s a big room full of lots of amazing people and two teachers whose names are Mrs Coleman and Mrs Burrough. There are thirteen girls and eleven boys in our class which means there are twenty-four students altogether. In English we are reading Kumiko and the Dragon which is about a Japanese girl and her guardian dragon. Chapter one talks about her fears and Chapter two is about meeting the dragon. Now it’s time to talk about Maths. We are learning about chance. There are different types of chance such as likely, possible, impossible, unlikely and certain. These can be used in sentences like, “It is likely that it will rain tomorrow.” or “It is certain that it will get dark tonight.” by Bonnie and Marley
3KC really is an extraordinary class!
We are looking forward to: -
The Swimming Carnival- Deacon
The swimming carnival in Term 4 will be an amazing athletic experience! There will be ribbons awarded to first, second and third place-getters. I’m looking forward to it because there are lots of people to race against. Lots of good Year 3 swimmers will be competing. It will be lots of fun!
Movie Nights- Evelyn and Lydia
The movie nights at Buderim oval are very enjoyable and fun because we can watch a movie on a very big screen. The P and C sell delicious food and refreshing drinks for everyone to enjoy.
It’s a great place to meet your friends.
Movie nights are at night because you can see the movie clearly and the screen glows. We’re looking forward to the next one when we can watch “Wonka”!
Movie nights are super fun!!
What we have enjoyed this year -
The Botanical Gardens Excursion- Koda
The Botanical Gardens was a beautiful experience. The moss garden was my absolute favourite part of the gardens. All the moss looked like pictures in my head. Everything else was amazing! The flowers, bushes and trees were interesting with their different colours and leaves. The natural environment was spectacular! We all went in groups, depending on your class. I think the Year 3 students next year will have the best time there!
Fractions in 3KC- Evie and Daisy
Last term, 3KC learned about fractions including wholes, halves, thirds, quarters, eighths and tenths! Students had lots of fun doing fraction activities and working in our fraction booklets. Everyone enjoyed Mrs Coleman’s fraction games! We all loved colouring in our fraction flags. 3KC were glad they studied fractions.
The Cosmodome – Daisy and Evie
Last term, all Year 3 students went to the Cosmodome. We learned about space and all the unique planets that orbit the Sun. Did you know that there are many different constellations in space? There are over 100! Students were directed to follow the Sun as it appeared to rise in the east and set in the west. Luckily, we had learnt these facts in Science with Mrs Burrough. We enjoyed it so much and hope to go back next year.
The Twits Performance- Harvey
The Twits is a very popular book written by Roald Dahl. There were some very funny moments in this masterpiece, like when Mr Twit tried to catch birds for bird pie! He caught three kids instead! I thought The Twits performance was quite good, funny and realistic and a lot like the book.
4CE
So far this year we have been learning about how to convert fractions into decimals. We have also read the book Rowan of Rin and learnt how the author Emily Rhodda portrayed the main character, Rowan on his quest into the mountains to find water for the beloved Buckshah of the village. In Science we have learnt about different materials and their properties, and how these materials can be used differently. We are currently learning about recycling and waste. In HASS we have been studying the continents of South America and Africa and have learnt about their cultures.
We are really looking forward to earning as much class money as we can this term to spend in our class auction at the end of the term.
Peter M and Willow B

6LC
For students at BMSS, the final term of 2024 is just beginning. In Year 6, many students are eager for the end-of-year graduation, being the first students to experience it in the impressive, new hall. Another momentous event that many are excited for, is the trip to Aussie World and the Movies, which both take place at the end of the year. In the meantime, students are preparing to start learning about the new English topic for term 4, which is analyzing different text structures about endangered species. Alternatively, in science, grade 6 are beginning an engaging unit, which is called ‘Life on Earth.’ In this topic students will be experimenting with mould. Undoubtedly, Year 6 has an appealing term planned before the students transition to high school.

Litter Free Lunch
Our last Litter Free Lunch was a huge success, so the Mini Planeteers and Planeteers are keen to do another one in Week 5 – Tuesday 29th October to help reduce our waste.
Containers for Change Drop Off Day - Monday 14th October (Week 3)
We are holding a Drop off Day on Monday of Week 3 where families can bring in their containers to donate! Every little bit counts and together we can achieve so much. You can bring your containers between 8-8:30am.
If every student in the school collected 10 containers to donate to the school – that would raise over $1100
Containers for Change
We have saved 7182 containers from landfill and have raised $718.20 to date with the containers for change. We are raising money for an outdoor setting made out of recyclable materials valued at $2500 and are hoping to reach this target by the end of Term 4. So to help this cause, we are encouraging students, their families and staff to bring in their containers from home if they would like to donate them and I have been handing out green bags that students can use to collect at home and bring in to school. Some students have even told me they’ve got their grandparents and neighbours collecting. Please feel free to bring in any containers and put them in the containers for change bin outside the bus shelter.
Collecting plastic bottle tops – a Year 3 student asked me if we could start collecting plastic bottle tops – she does this at home with her grandma and when they collect 100, they take it to the hospital where they are recycled and made into prosthetic limbs. If you have plastic bottle tops at home, your child is more than welcome to bring them into school.
Ronald McDonald House Donations
Thank you to everyone for the donations for Ronald McDonald House. There was a great response, and we hand delivered them to Ronald McDonald House in Brisbane who were extremely thankful.
School Sport

District Athletics - BMSS Team
On September 15, the District athletics was held, and it was a very eventful day. To start off, we travelled on a bus to get to the UniSC track and field course. We had a lot of wins, but the main thing was that we had the most spirit; we were by far the loudest cheerers. No matter where people came, everyone was amazing and gave it their all.
In between races we had some fun, like stealing Ms. Brennan’s fans, due to the scorching weather! Overall, it was a very fun day, and the Buderim spirit was high! Every time a Buderim athlete made the finals from the heats, we would all cheer. Even the announcer noticed our excitement. We were even lucky enough to have Buderim students make it to regionals! Congratulations to anyone that competed and thank you to all the staff and parents that came to support and help. Thank you to Ms Brennan, Mrs Dalton and Mr Hawes for taking us!

QUEENSLAND STATE ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations to Will O. (Year 6) for proudly representing BMSS and the Sunshine Coast Region at the State Athletics Championship held at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre in Brisbane on October 8-10th.
Will competed in the Under 12 boys 100m, 200m and 4 X 100m relays and raced against the best in Queensland.
Well done, Will!
P - 3 Funday
In the last week of Term 3, our Prep to Year 3 Funday was postponed due to rainy weather. This event is now scheduled for Thursday 17 October. The original program times and events will be used on this day. We hope as many parents as possible are able to come along and watch their child/children participate.
Interschool Sport
Throughout term 3, year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to participate in interschool sport. The emphasis on the day was involvement and many students attempted a sport they had never played before. A great time was had by all participants from year five and six. Here is a brief report from each sport.
NRL Tag
At Oz tag our team had a blast. Over the three days we were there we improved heaps. We came across some challenges against some other teams but that just helped us improve. It was a great bonding experience, and we made a lot of new friends. Between breaks we enjoyed spending quality time kicking the footy with our friends. We also loved the lollies and chips from the canteen. Overall interschool sport Oz tag was so far the highlight of our year.
-Ava k & Heidi L
Rugby League
In weeks 5, 7 and 9 we had our interschool sport Rugby League matches at the Swans rugby union fields at Cotton Tree. We caught a bus to and from the fields and as soon as we got there we would get ready for our first match. The senior team of year 6 students played against Stella 1 and 2, Siena and Mooloolaba. The juniors of year 5 students played the same schools. Some of the games were tough and we had to try our best. We scored lots of tries across the three weeks. Between games we had breaks, so we had snacks on some food and drank plenty of water. We had some wins and losses. Some players scored their first ever tries which we were all very excited about.
The matches were well refereed by the NRL development officers and while there were a few lumps and bumps there were no serious injuries.
We all had a lot of fun playing with our team and friends.
From Kaden and Kai
Netball
This year we had three sessions of interschool sport, and I chose netball. The other primary schools we played against were Siena, Stella, Kuluin and Mooloolaba. It was a great experience to be able to play netball with some of my closest friends. We all enjoyed being given the freedom to decide our positions and discover which were our favourite positions. We also liked being able to all hang out and get to know each other better outside of school. It was wonderful to see students who have never played netball before developing skills and an understanding of netball and its rules. I think that interschool sport is a fantastic opportunity for students to find a passion for a new sport.

Soccer
Interschool Sports for soccer was amazing. A few weeks before interschool sports, there were over one hundred students that wanted to participate in soccer for interschool sports. Although not everyone got to go and do soccer, everyone still had lots of fun. There were five schools in total including our's. There were two choices for soccer teams. You could choose to do seven aside where you have seven players on the field at a time. Or you could do eleven aside where you have eleven players on the field at a time. Most eleven aside and seven aside teams got at least four soccer games each week of interschool sports. There were three weeks of interschool sports. Week 5, 7, and 9. When it comes to the gametime we wore shin pads, long socks, and soccer boots. We fortunately were able to have students from Maroochydore High School ref and watch our games. Because of them, all games were fair. Interschool sports soccer wouldn’t have been doable without the help of the volunteer refs Almost everyone that participated in interschool sports soccer had an amazing time. Overall, interschool sports was amazing and I bet everyone else would say the same.
AFL
During the past few weeks Buderim has participated in Interschool Sports. All students at Buderim in grades 5 and 6 had the choice of playing 5 sports! There were 28 students that chose AFL this year, 5 of them girls which was really great! It was also a great experience for the students who didn’t play AFL for club to learn a new sport and be around kids who do, as AFL is a fast and interesting game that is able to be learnt quite quickly! At AFL, Buderim showed great teamwork and sportsmanship on and of the fields. After games we would shake hands with the other team even if we lost and when we were having breaks we would support the other teams playing by watching and cheering. One thing all the students at AFL also liked was the canteen as it provided many cold beverages and sweet lollies and savoury snacks for energy after your game.

In Week 8, our Prep classes enjoyed celebrating their special people during our ‘Father's Day Celebrations’. Together we made crowns and ties, took photos in our booth, constructed catapults, built Lego, played soccer, painted and more!
We appreciate all the special people in the lives of our BMSS Prep kiddos and thank them for the time they gave us to allow us to show them how we feel!
We hope everyone had a magic Father's Day!
Prep Chambers Island Excursion
On September 5, 6 and 7 the Prep classes visited Chambers Island. We really enjoyed trying to spot our house during the bus ride there and were excited to walk over the long bridge to the island. When we got to the island, we did lots of fun activities including a nature walk, sensory bags and students got to build a habitat for a crab, yabby catching and drag net fishing. We all had such a great day!
Book Week Parade
Our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 Students loved Book Week where they brought so many characters to life at our Book Week parade. It was fabulous to see our community passionately supporting the event. A huge thanks to all the parents and special friends who came along to enjoy and encourage the children as they displayed their awesome costumes around the new hall. Thank you also for the time and effort that was put into creating so many inspiring costumes. Our students in years 3 to 6 enjoyed being able to dress up as their favourite book character on Thursday August 24.
Students and staff celebrated Book Week from Monday 19th August to Friday 25th August. This year’s theme was: ‘Reading is Magic’.
Our library showcased the shortlisted books and students had the opportunity to listen to and read them throughout the week. Thank you to all teachers and classes for the outstanding artwork that has been displayed for the event.
Daniel Morcombe Day
Thursday October 24, will see our students again wear red to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. All students who wear red are asked to donate a gold coin, with all funds going to the foundation to support keeping our children safe.
2025 Student Leader Selection Process
Throughout Term 4, our Year 5 students have the opportunity to be part of the 2025 Student Leader selection process. Year 5 students have been provided with information on the selection process and this is also attached. Timelines and dates have also been listed on the calendar in this newsletter as well as on the BMSS website. All leadership positions for 2025 will be announced prior to the end of the school year.
Preparing for 2025
To ensure we are able to plan as accurately as possible, families are asked to assist with the following:
- Letting any families know, who are intending to have students enrol in any P-6 year level at BMSS, to submit an enrolment form at the school office
- Letting the office staff know of any students who are transferring to other schools in 2025 in an email via info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au
- Letting the office staff know of any students who will not be present from the beginning of the school year (eg. For holidays). It is crucial that we know of all students who will be returning, but may be away at the beginning of the school year as they are also counted in our total enrolment and will contribute to maximising the number of teachers we are entitled to. This in turn, reduces the ratio of teachers to students across the school. Once again, please email this information to info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au
PERKS Project
In PERKS in Term 4, all students in Years 1 to 6 will participate in a PERKS lesson focused on RESILIENCE.
RESILIENCE is the ability to bounce back again and again when bad things happen or things don’t go the way we would like.
Students will be given some strategies to use when situations arise that are going to be difficult and challenging for them.
The following posters will be used with different age groups and will be placed in all classrooms. You may wish to talk to your children about RESILIENCE and some potential situations at home where they may need to be resilient.
It is important children understand that:
- Bad things will happen
- Things won’t always work out the way I want them to
- I will find some things challenging
- I will feel sad or unhappy about things from time to time
- It’s okay to make mistakes
- Adults also have to practise being resilient
The most important thing is how they deal with these situations (bounce back) and move on.
Justin Coulson Parent Talk
Last term the P and C invited Dr Justin Coulson along to speak to parents on the ‘Parenting Resolution’. Dr Coulson is a well-known Australian author, speaker, and parenting expert. The school has purchased 6 of his books which focus on creating healthier, happier families by fostering strong emotional connections and positive communication. They offer valuable insights grounded in both research and experience and are available for borrowing from the school library.
Curriculum Corner
Australian Curriculum Version 9
BMSS is continuing to implement the updated Australian Curriculum. This is a rolled-out approach involving teachers becoming familiar with the new curriculum in each learning area prior to implementation. This year we have implemented Mathematics. In 2025, we will implement English.
The Department of Education has created resources, including assessment tasks, which we then unpack and align with the Australian Curriculum content for our students. We work together during our planning sessions to share ways to teach the content well and we aim for high student engagement. These discussions around effective pedagogical practice then align with how we can ensure each student is achieving to their full protentional. At the classroom level, students know what they are learning, how they are travelling with the learning during the term in relation to the A-E marking guides and curriculum content, and how they can improve. This process is called ‘line of sight’.
Teachers and the Leadership Team members talk to students in relation to their learning. Our students also talk to each other in relation to these questions.
The 5 Questions (by Dr Lyn Sharratt):
What are you learning?
How are you going?
How do you know?
How can you improve?
Where do you go for help?
BMSS Version 9 Implementation Schedule
Year | Familiarisation | Implementation |
2024 | English, Maths | Maths |
2025 | Science, Technologies and HPE | English |
2026 | HASS, Languages, The Arts | Science, Technologies and HPE |
2027 | HASS, Languages, The Arts |

Library Lounge
Term 4 is our final Book Club for 2024, with students having received the Issue 7 catalogue last week. If your child has not brought one home and you are after one, spare copies are available in the library.
All orders to be done online by Friday 18th October.
2025 Book Packs
Please be aware that discussion at a recent P&C meeting included options for parents who do not want to have any leftover book pack items, from the current school year to go home. While parents are welcome to have leftover book pack items to use at home, we are aware some parents may wish to leave these items at school to be used in classrooms the following year for students who need them or donated to a charity that has been identified by our P&C.
Parking Request
We have had feedback from parents in relation to pick up processes each afternoon. The supervised pick-up zone is on Elizabeth St and a big thank you must go to parents who use the 6 pick up bays and do not park on the yellow lines, or across driveways for pick up.
The feedback we have had is a request for parents to not park on the yellow lines in Tindale Avenue as it impacts traffic turning left out of Elizabeth Street and only leaves room for one car to move along Tindale Avenue at a time. If cars are not parked on the yellow lines, it will allow traffic to move in both directions.
Thank you for your assistance with this.
Buderim War Memorial Hall Centenary
Friday November 8 and Saturday November 9 will see the Buderim War Memorial Hall celebrate its Centenary. Members of the community are invited to attend this free event and enjoy a day full of fun activities and history. Join the celebrations which journey from 1924 to 2024 reliving the music and dance that the people of Buderim have enjoyed in the hall during its first 100 years.
Staffing Update:
Please be aware that the following staff will be replaced while they are on leave in the coming weeks:
Staff Member | Class | Replacement | Dates |

QParents Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I owe?
- QParents enables you to view invoices as well as details of paid invoices. Click the ‘To Pay’ checkbox next to any invoice to make a payment.
- Note: If you are viewing the payment screen within the combined student view (accessed through the Payments tile on your home screen), click on the student name which will navigate you to the individual student profile where you can make a payment.
- Watch this video for an overview of the payments screen and making online payments in QParents.
If I pay an invoice does that mean my child can attend the event?
- You will also need to give your ‘consent’ (permission) for your child to attend. In the past, we have sent out permission letters however, we now use QParents to gain your consent. It is important that you provide consent (your permission for your child to attend the event) as well as pay for the invoice.
I notice QParents has ‘Consent Management’. What is this?
- Consent Management is a new feature in QParents. It enables you to provide consent (permission) for events/excursions. This is a great feature as it removes the paperwork previously required for every school event your child would attend (please note, you still need to pay for the event as well as give your consent- two part process).
2024 SRS
The Student Resource Scheme (SRS) includes curriculum resources that are not funded by the department (such as text books, equipment for students' personal use and items used by the student in the classroom). The SRS provides parents with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to individually sourcing curriculum resources and educational programs (i.e. Mathletics, Mathseeds, Reading Eggs).
The scheme ensures that students have the resources required for them to engage with the curriculum for their education, and saves parents time and money in sourcing the prescribed materials elsewhere. Savings are gained through the school’s bulk purchasing practices and hiring arrangements. The scheme is not used to raise funds for other purposes, and revenue collected through the scheme is applied only to the resources and operation of the scheme.
The scheme’s operation, resource inclusions and participation fees were approved by the school’s P&C Association at the meeting held on 10 October 2023.
Resource Inclusions
- All resources included in the SRS are detailed in the attached SRS Resource list. This list is also available on the school’s website. This is a comprehensive list of all resources included in the scheme and their associated costs
- All invoicing for the 2024 SRS has been issued via QParents

SPRING MOVIE NIGHT – Screening ‘Wonka’ on Friday 18 October
We are delighted to announce our Spring Movie Night will screen….. drumroll please…… Wonka! Get excited to see this delightful and heartwarming 2023 hit film while connecting with friends and our amazing community.
Of course, the story of Wonka is a precursor to the much-loved story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We all know that Willy Wonka is the mastermind behind some of the most delicious and innovative chocolate creations the world has ever seen. But before shaking up the chocolate industry and making a name for himself as a confectionery genius, the ambitious young creator had to defy all odds. The film Wonka portrays this heartwarming story of the delightful young Willy Wonka doing so!
In the film, we watch as Willy transforms his wildest dreams into reality with a bold vision, determination, and unexpected help from new friends. After all, hard work and a dash of magic can make anything happen. Because, as Willy already knows, it only takes a dream to make a difference.
Join us to experience the joy of this film this month at BMSS:
- Friday 18 October
- Gates open at 5.30pm, movie starts at 6.30pm (or when it gets dark)
- Under the stars on the School oval
- Free entry for all!
Buderim Lions will host a BBQ, including a sausage sizzle and delicious wraps with chicken tenderloin and bacon. Our Banksia Cafe will supply the snacks. We'll even wheel out the popcorn machine – what's better than fresh butter popcorn as you watch a fantastic movie under the stars right here in our beloved Buderim. We're all for the more the merrier, so feel free to bring along as many family and friends as possible. Share the love!
If you haven’t come along to one of our movie nights before, please note they are a family event, so you’ll need to ensure your child/ren are supervised at all times.
We'll need a few volunteers on the night, so if you are interested in helping or dishing out some popcorn, please email Margie at marketing@bmsspandc.org.
