Cathy has finished her career teaching Drama after many years as a classroom teacher. We wish Cathy all the best in retirement.

Thank you to all volunteers who have helped throughout the 2022 year. Your assistance is certainly appreciated. Thank you also to all of our volunteers who were able to attend our special morning tea last week and a big thank you to our P&C for organising this event.

    Year 6 Graduation and Farewell

Wednesday 7 December will see our Year 6 students graduate in preparation for the important transition to secondary school.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30am and conclude at 11:15am at the University of the Sunshine Coast Stadium. There will be a number of speeches as well as the announcement of our Year 6 annual awards.

All Year 6 students will also receive their graduation certificate. This year, we have approximately 150 Year 6 students graduating and we would like to thank each of them for their significant contribution to our school and wish them all well in their future endeavours.

A big thank you to our staff members, parents and P&C members who have been involved in preparing for the ceremony, which I am sure will be an enjoyable morning for all attendees.

After the Graduation Ceremony concludes, there will be a complimentary morning tea provided for all students and guests who attend.

    Swimming Carnival

Well done to all students in Years 5-6 who participated in the school swimming carnival, and adapted very well to the changing circumstance due to the weather. It was pleasing to see these students swimming in their events for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly. We look forward to our Year 3 and 4 swimming carnival tomorrow that was postponed due to the wet weather last week. Thank you to our PE teachers for their organisation of the carnivals and Mr Bishop for his assistance with setting up.

As the senior carnival was completed in week 9, these results could be calculated and in the below table are our age champions and runners up.

SHEP 2022 (STATE HONOURS ENSEMBLE PROGRAM)

Congratulations to the Instrumental Music students who were selected for the State Honours Ensemble Program.

We are very excited to tell you that three of our Senior Band students: Ryder on Tenor Saxophone, Hayden on Euphonium and Sophia on Clarinet have been selected to participate in this wonderful opportunity in Maryborough. All students should be super proud of their amazing achievements this year.

    Remembrance Day Ceremony Foote Sanctuary

Buderim Mountain State School students were part of the Buderim Remembrance Day ceremony again this year.

The ceremony was held in the Foote Sanctuary and included our strings ensemble and band performing before and during the service, the choir who assisted with the National Anthem and a rendition of ‘Waltzing Matilda’ as well as our School Captains (Chloe and Tanner) reciting ‘We Shall Keep the Faith’.

A big thank you must go to all students who represented our school, our parents for your support, as well as Mr Jackson, Mrs Payne and Mr Scullett-Dean for preparing our students and their assistance on the day.

    Curriculum Corner

    Year Level Planning Meetings

Over the last few weeks, we have had our year level planning days in preparation for 2023, and in particular Term 1, curriculum delivery. Teachers from each year level spent a full day unpacking the curriculum requirements and the summative assessment tasks. We discussed and brainstormed ways we can help our students aim for the ‘A’ and ‘B’ descriptors in the assessment tasks.

These year level planning days at the end of each term (to prepare for the following term) are vital in ensuring continuity across all classes in each year level. They give our students the best possible access to the Australian Curriculum, while also differentiating curriculum and teaching strategies based on each student’s academic needs.

    Learning in Real-Life Contexts

With the Christmas break only days away, you might be planning to embark trips with your family. Long car trips or waiting in airport lounges are wonderful opportunities to engage your children in literacy and numeracy activities (learning in real-life contexts and in fun ways).

Some ideas - talking about their thinking in relation to:

    • Timetables with departures and arrivals (time between flights; converting 24-hour time)
    • Looking at numbers on street signs – adding or multiplying the numbers
    • Identifying words and spelling patterns on signs
    • Making up words starting with each letter from car licence plates
    • Adding or multiplying numbers on car licence plates
    • A classic which is great for our younger students: Eye Spy

Please keep encouraging your children to read over the break.

    Ask them questions such as:

    • What do you know about the characters in the book?
    • What is your favourite part of the book and why?
    • For non-fiction texts: What did you learn from reading the book?

Our Curriculum Overviews are located on the website.

    (Head of Curriculum)

    Buderim Christmas Carols

Please be aware that the Buderim Christmas Carols will be held on Sunday 11 December from 5:30pm at the Buderim Village Park.

Walk to School Flyer for 2023

Once again, the Wednesday Walk to School program will operate in 2023.

A big thank you to the Buderim Lions who organize this including the many volunteers.

To participate, students must complete the below registration form with copies also available from the school office.

Lions Walk to School Safety Program

    2023 Australia Day Celebrations

Please be aware that the Rotary Club of Buderim will be running an Australia Day event in the Buderim Village Park from on Australia Day in 2023.

There will be an excellent line-up of entertainment booked, as well as multiple food vendors, community group displays, games, facepainting, a licenced bar and fireworks to top the night off.

There will also be the usual military flag-raising ceremony.

    2023 Booklist Drop Off

Please be aware that all families will have the opportunity to deliver their child’s 2023 book pack to their 2023 classroom on Friday 20 January from 9:00am -10:00am.

Families are welcome to bring book packs on the first day of the school year, but this opportunity has also been provided.

Prep classes will continue with the ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions, also on the 20 January from 9:00am -10:00am, which has occurred in previous years.

    2023 School Parades

Please be aware that we will have a small change with parades for 2023:

Prep and Year 1 will continue on a Tuesday afternoon.

Year 2 and 3 will be on a Wednesday afternoon.

Year 4 will be on a Thursday afternoon.

Year 5 and 6 will continue on a Friday afternoon.

    Uniforms

Thank you to all families who ensure students are in full school uniform each day. With the end of the year fast approaching, we know that most families will purchase new shoes for their children prior to the 2023 school year beginning.

Our uniform policy includes plain black shoes as part of the school uniform, and when purchasing shoes for 2023, we ask that all families assist by organising plain black shoes.

    Your support is appreciated.

The uniform shop will be open in the new year:

    • Wednesday 18 January 2023 2:30pm – 5:30pm
    • Thursday 19 January 2023 2:30pm – 5:30pm
    • Friday 20 January 2023 7:30am – 11:30am

    Moving Rooms

Please be aware that a number of our teachers are moving to different classrooms for the 2023 school year. To provide enough time for this to occur, the moving process began on 30 November and will continue until 9 December for some teachers. If your child’s teacher is moving classroom for 2023, it may mean that your child will finish the school year in a different room. Your child’s teacher will let you know if this is relevant for their class.

    Preparing for 2023

To ensure we are able to plan as accurately as possible, families are asked to assist with the following:

    • Letting any families know, who are intending to have students enrol in any P-6 year level at BMSS, to submit an enrolment form at the school office
    • Letting the office staff know of any students who are transferring to other schools in 2023 in an email via info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au
    • Letting the office staff know of any students who will not be present from the beginning of the school year (eg. For holidays). It is crucial that we know of all students who will be returning, but may be away at the beginning of the school year as they are also counted in our total enrolment and will contribute to maximising the number of teachers we are entitled to. This in turn, reduces the ratio of teachers to students across the school. Once again, please email this information to info@buderimmountainss.eq.edu.au

    2023 Bus Service Changes
